The Junior girls race produces the meets 1, 2 and 4 record holders. Interestingly the same three girls (Hansel, McCandles and Starns were the top 3 finishers in the mile at the 2012 Oakland CYO championships.
Great race. McCandless took it out hard the first mile. Hansel worked the second mile well. Starns was consistent throughout. These 3 girls are the real deal. An interview with Hansel might be cool.
looks like lots of frosh girls will make big impacts this year
Those three girls are cream of the crop, but note the order of finish has changed since 8th grade and Hansel blasted the record, yesterday. Coach Green is doing something right over at Las Lomas, taking over for Schreiber a couple years back. They've got a deep junior boys group that I don't think ran before high school producing some great numbers and also soph girls and frosh boys. They attract a huge team and are getting good results
Anonymous @ 7:13pm - good effort by Hansel and yes the team is looking up but let's not get ahead of ourselves. It's the first race of the season and it's only two miles. Post season is when it counts.
Remember, it was only a few months ago that McCandless outperformed Hansel at NCS in both the 1600 and 3200 and then ran a stellar time in the 3200 at State, while Starn out ran her in the 1600 at NCS and then made the podium at State...
