NCS MOC Pre-Meet Predictions
You will get a more detailed version of the following rankings with the meet program at NCS this Saturday. What I will post is my team predictions going into Saturday's meet. I have to say that this year was a much more difficult process than last year as some of the divisions are extremely competitive and multiple (4-8) teams are in the mix for NCS titles and state meet berths.
Best of luck to all individuals and teams. As always, these are just my best estimates based on what has happened so far this season and in the end the results will be determined at the races.
All Divisions Top 10 NCS MOC Times for Hayward Course
Map of the Hayward Course courtesy of the Miramonte XC website:
Newspaper articles leading up to NCS Meet:
•Knight's runner faces tall task (Greg Drosky Las Lomas)

NCS Rankings #4
As we head into the league championship part of the season, here is my fourth version of the NCS Rankings. I will have have another set of rankings heading into the NCS meet followed by a breakdown of the statistical data following the section meet. Feel free to comment on the following rankings. I do not have all league results to peruse so your feedback is appreciated.
Division I Boys (Top 2 teams qualify to state meet)
1) Amador Valley-They have been the most solid team in this division. Shawn Daut leads a battle tested group that has not shied away from competition.
2) Monte Vista-Great effort at Mt. SAC to finish 2nd in their race running 81:30. They packed in six runners between 16:07 and 16:47.
3) Deer Valley-They have put themselves back in the hunt for a state meet berth. Narrow loss to DLS in league meet followed by an impressive win at the Castro Valley Invitational.
4) Castro Valley-Their strong top three includes the streaking Jack Leng but their #4 and #5 are inexperienced freshmen. Just as this division, anything can happen with this team.
5) College Park-Defending NCS champions might be putting it together just in time for a run at another state meet.
On the cusp: Liberty, Foothill, San Ramon Valley, Granada and Antioch.
Division I Girls (Top 2 teams qualify to state meet)
1) Castro Valley-Strongest team in this division that has run up and down the coast and has lots of depth waiting in the wings if necessary.
2) College Park-Defending champions with the individual defending champion, Alycia Cridebring, leading the way.
3/4) California/Granada-Two league rivals have battled all season with no clear cut winner so far.
5) Monte Vista-Strong showing at the Tri-Valley Classic with individual winner Chloe Wood.
Division II Boys (Top 3 teams qualify to state meet)
1) Petaluma-They are still top team in this division and in Northern California. Won the Mariner Invitational while missing one of their runners who has since returned.
2) De La Salle-Major depth for this team with a strong frosh/soph group. Might be closer to Petaluma than people think.
3) Montgomery-Solid pack that has had the upper hand over rivals Santa Rosa in league action including a 26-31 effort at last meeting.
4) Washington-Nice effort for them at the Castro Valley Invitational as they finished 5th behind 3 Division I schools and Del Campo.
5) Santa Rosa-Rory McLeod gives them a strong #1 runner which could get them closer in a big field.
Division II Girls (Top 3 teams qualify to state meet)
1) Carondelet-Winning NCS is just mere formality for this nationally ranked team.
2) Livermore-Have run under the radar for most of the season but that is no longer the case following their Mt. SAC run. Their #1, Diana George, is one of the best in Northern California.
3) Casa Grande-Despite dropping one spot, they are still in position to earn state meet berth.
4/5) Montgomery/Santa Rosa-Montgomery won the last battle between two teams but Santa Rosa was missing a few runners. League championship will break tie.
Division III Boys (Top 4 teams qualify to state meet)
1) Acalanes-In head to head battle with Las Lomas at their last league meet, Acalanes won to finish the DFAL at 8-1 after early season loss to Campolindo. Provided that they can win the DFAL league championship meet, Acalanes will be favorites to win NCS.
2) Las Lomas-Section's most dangerous team that could put it together for NCS title run.
3) Maria Carrillo-Not too many head to head battles with their Division III rivals. Victorious effort at the Cal Poly Invitational.
4) Campolindo-They are putting it together at the right time and will be ready by NCS. Capable of beating teams above with inspired run.
5) Redwood-They are the best team in the MCAL this year. Finished 5th last year at NCS MOC.
Division III Girls (Top 4 teams qualify to state meet)
1) Campolindo-They finished the DFAL schedule undefeated despite some aches and pains toward the last few weeks.
2) Maria Carrillo-Their last effort was a victorious one at the Cal Poly Invitational.
3) Acalanes-They have done well in the always tough and competitive DFAL which will prepare them well for their post-season stretch.
4/5) Redwood/Miramonte-Tough to separate these two teams. At lone head to head meeting, Miramonte came out on top of Redwood, 124-127 at Lowell.
On the cusp: Las Lomas
Division IV Boys (Top 3 teams qualify to state meet)
1) St. Mary's-Ranked 4th in state and clearly number 1 in this division.
2) Moreau Catholic-Team that has done historically well in this division. They have a strong front runner in Brian Fix.
3) Sir Francis Drake-Thomas Oliver leads the way for the Pirates who have held their own in MCAL competition.
4) San Rafael-Despite having their top runner transfer to another school, this team could put it together come NCS time with a combination of veterans and youngsters.
5) Piedmont-This is a rebuilding year for them but come NCS time, they could be ready to move up the ranks with a young team.
Division IV Girls (Top 3 teams qualify to state meet)
1) St. Mary's-They are now ranked #1 in this division for the State of California.
2) San Rafael-Strong duo up front and with the usual small field in this division, that should be enough to put them here.
3) Moreau Catholic-Ran well at final HAAL meet and with a strong 5th could challenge San Rafael for the #2 spot.
4) Arcata-Best team in the H-DNC with an experienced crew led by Allie Maher.
5) Piedmont-The defending champions' lowest finish in the past six years was a third in 2004.
Division V Boys (Top 5 teams qualify to state meet)
1) SF University-No superstar front runner for the this group but their depth makes them #1.
2) College Prep-They have two runners that will finish ahead of the UHS pack but the return of injured runners back to form will be needed to upend the Red Devils.
3) Berean Christian-The top three teams in this division should safely move on to the state meet. With some luck and good running at Hayward, the BC pack could upend their East rival.
4) South Fork-Hank Carl ran impressively at Mt. SAC establishing himself as the individual favorite.
5) Stuart Hall-They have the runners that could take this team to the state meet for the first time in school history. With lots of early season injuries, do they have enough time to put it all together?
Division V Girls (Top 4 teams qualify to the state meet)
1) SF University-Putting it together at the right time. In last league meet vs. CSU and MA, UHS soundly defeated both teams.
2) College Prep-They have been trying to close the gap between their 1-5 runners at their league meets.
3) Crystal Springs Uplands-2 time defending champions have not run their best race yet this season.
4) Marin Academy-This could be the wild card team in this division with the defending individual champion and a 9th grader hot on her heels.
5) Lick Wilmerding-They finished 3rd behind CSU and MA at the BCL Challenge. Will need a perfect day from all their runners to move past any of the top four teams.
Fire away! I am not opposed to anonymous posts because I don't want to limit comments but using your name and school will add a little more credence to your post.

NCS Rankings #3
Here is the 3rd edition of the NCS Rankings following this weekend's meets. Some great divisional battles are shaping up, which will lead to a very exciting and competitive NCS meet at Hayward. Feel free to comment on the list below.
Division I Boys (Top 2 teams qualify to state meet)
1) Amador Valley-Maintained their #1 ranking with their victorious effort at the Stanford Invitational in the Division I race.
2) Monte Vista-Finally ran their full compliment of runners at Stanford. Nice team effort with 18 second gap between 1st. through 6th. runner.
3) College Park-Defending NCS champions with lots of returning runners and history. Can they put it together again for another state meet run?
Here is my order for the following six teams in the incredibly deep Div. I field: Castro Valley, Granada, Deer Valley, San Ramon Valley, Liberty and Foothill.
Division I Girls (Top 2 teams qualify to state meet) Edited 10/2
1) Castro Valley-Finished 2nd. at the Ram Invitational with 2 of their top 5 not racing in the Varsity race.
2) College Park-Only lost by a point to the suddenly potent Campolindo group in their league clash.
3) California-Ran in the seeded race at Stanford finishing 16th and was highest Division I placer overall.
On the cusp: Granada-Finished 8th at Stanford Division I race, claiming highest NCS placing in that race.
Division II Boys (Top 3 teams qualify to state meet)
1) Petaluma-They finished 9th overall at Stanford and were the 2nd. highest Norcal placer behind Woodcreek.
2) De La Salle-2nd. place finish at Stanford in Division II race to an always strong Galena team. One of the best team in NCS regardless of division.
3) Montgomery-Gets the edge over Santa Rosa with sub. 1 minute 1-5 gap at their last league race.
Division II Girls (Top 3 teams qualify to state meet)
1) Carondelet-Winning effort at the Nike Pre-National meet. Ranked #9 in latest Harrier National Rankings.
2) Casa Grande-Dominique Ratto gives CG a strong #2 behind Taylor. 6th runner ran 21:16 at Stanford which means good depth.
3) Santa Rosa-Top 10 finish at Stanford with two strong runners (Eva Stuart and Emmy Cozine) leading the way.
Division III Boys (Top 4 teams qualify to state meet)
1) Acalanes-Was highest NCS finisher at Stanford in Division III race. Nate Beach gives them a low scorer at any meet they attend.
2) Las Lomas-Stanford was valuable experience for this young, talented group (4 sophomores and 1 freshman in top 7). Has the biggest upside of any team in this division.
3) Maria Carrillo-Capable of defeating Acalanes and Las Lomas. Defending NCS champions.
On the cusp: Campolindo-Competes in tough league (DFAL) that will prepare them well for NCS final.
Division III Girls (Top 4 teams qualify to state meet) Edited 10/2
1) Campolindo-Major statement at Stanford finishing 4th. in Division III race behind the top 3 ranked Div. III teams in the Southern Section.
2) Maria Carrillo-I don't believe they have run their best race yet this year. Will look to close gap on Campo before clash at Hayward.
3) Acalanes-Has the upper hand so far this season over Miramonte at league meeting and at Stanford.
On the cusp: Redwood/Miramonte-Tough to separate these two teams. At lone head to head meeting, Miramonte came out on top of Redwood, 124-127 at Lowell.
Division IV Boys (Top 3 teams qualify to state meet)
1) St. Mary's-Won the Division IV race at Stanford defeating #2 ranked SS team, Oaks Christian. Matt Duffy continues successful season with individual victory.
2) Moreau Catholic-One team that traveled down south to compete this weekend, finishing 3rd in the Big Ditch Invitational.
3) San Rafael-8th place finish at Stanford with 2 freshmen part of their top 5.
On the cusp:Piedmont-Showed there is still life in this program at the Farmer Invitational.
Division IV Girls (Top 3 teams qualify to state meet)
1) St. Mary's-Continued impressive season with close 2nd. place finish to highly ranked Oaks Christian at Stanford.
2) San Rafael-Only ran 5 runners at Stanford but good enough to finish 11th and 2nd fastest NCS team.
3) Piedmont-They usually stay under the radar until league time and it's no different this year. Defending NCS champions.
Division V Boys (Top 5 teams qualify to state meet)
1) College Prep-They just keep winning this season although the gap is not as great as last year's state podium team.
2) Berean Christian-Incredibly close to CPS in every meeting so far this cross country season.
3) SF University-Slowly putting together competitive team that will be right there with top 2 come NCS time.
On the cusp: Stuart Hall-Looking for their first state meet berth as a team.
Division V Girls (Top 4 teams qualify to the state meet)
1) College Prep-They finished 2nd. to Oregon team in the Division V race at Stanford. Young team with big upside.
2) Crystal Springs Uplands-Finished 3rd. at Stanford, one point behind CPS (92 to 91). They will get lots of opportunities this season to regain their #1 position.
3) SF University-We haven't seen their full compilation of runners race together yet this season. Cecilia Furlong joins XC team for first time following her impressive Track season.
On the cusp: Marin Academy-Team finished an impressive 4th. at the Stanford Invitational with Roger taking the individual crown.
Individual rankings for each division will be posted before this weekend's races.

Stanford, Norcal and NCS Rankings
Another outstanding cross country meet on "the farm" today at Stanford. It was great to see most of the top teams and individuals go head to head or at the very least compete on the same course so we can compare individual and team times. While one meet, in the middle of the season, does not dictate what will happen in November, it's nonetheless a great barometer of where teams stand at the moment.
It was also great to meet many coaches and athletes today. Thank you very much for the positive comments about the blog. Please continue to get the word out about the blog so more people can contribute to Cross Country in Northern California. Those of you with team websites, please add this blog to your links.
I will have new Norcal Rankings coming out on Monday as I get results from other cross country meets as well. I will also plan on having the new NCS rankings by mid week.
Please feel free to comment on any of the races and/or performances from today's meets. You can also email me at albertjcaruana@gmail.com if you like. If you are a coach or athlete and you are interested in being part of a coach or athlete interview, please email me as well.
Complete results as well as combined girls and boys are available at the following link:

North Coast Section (NCS) Rankings #2
Here are the 2nd edition of the NCS Rankings after 4 weeks of racing. Some teams have been very busy racing up and down the coast while other teams are keeping a low profile. Feel free to comment on the rankings below.
Division I Boys
1) Amador Valley-Most complete team in Division I so far this season. Impressive 2nd at DLS/Carondelet Nike Invitational.
2) Monte Vista-2nd to Skyline at Ed Sias without #1 runner. 6th at DLS/Car Invite without #2 runner. 1-6 back from last year.
3) Castro Valley-Tough duo up front (Leng and Fazzio) with talented freshman #4. With strong 5th could run with anybody.
Really strong division this year. With NCS only sending 2 teams to state meet, some very good teams are going to be left home during Thanksgiving weekend. Teams right on the cusp: College Park, San Ramon Valley, Foothill, Granada, Liberty and Deer Valley.
Division I Girls
1) Castro Valley-Ran close race to Carondelet at Ed Sias. As long as they stay healthy, will be very tough to beat.
2) College Park-Alycia Cridebring leads the way. 3rd place finish at DLS/Car Invite with F/S taking 1st. Close 1 point loss to Campolindo in first DFAL meet.
3) Granada-Finished in 4th place at DLS/Car Invite. Returns 2-5 from last year's 3rd place NCS Div. I team.
Division II Boys
1) Petaluma-#1 ranked team in Norther California. Everybody is back from 5th place state team. Broke Spring Lake Park team record which dated back to 1988.
2) De La Salle-Strong team with five runners under 17 minutes at own invitational.
3) Santa Rosa/Montgomery-Toss up between these two teams. Santa Rosa has upper hand over Montgomery so far but Montgomery missing a runner at each meet.
Division II Girls
1) Carondelet-Everybody back for defending division II team. Hood is running better than ever.
2) Santa Rosa-2nd at Panther Preview, 4th at Ed Sias. Top 5 back from last year's 5th place NCS Division II team.
3) Casa Grande-3rd at Panther Preview. Jacque Taylor, one of state's finest leads way. Upper hand over Montgomery so far this season.
Division III Boys
1) Maria Carrillo-Best team so far in the early season with Nate Huckeba leading the way.
2) Las Lomas-Two race results so far (Earlybird and 1st DFAL meet) and can boast a talented runner at each grade level. Could be team to beat at the end of the season.
3) Campolindo-Still putting it together so far but will be there at the end.
On the cusp: Acalanes with talented lead runner, Beach, will have plenty of opportunities to knock off DFAL opponents (Las Lomas and Campo).
Division III Girls
1) Maria Carrillo-With Curtin twins running xc this year, haven't missed a beat. Won Panther Preview and Ed Sias.
2) Campolindo-Laurie Finnegan is defending NCS Div III champion. Campo had nice win in first DFAL meet defeating College Park and Las Lomas.
3) Redwood-Team has been impressive early with solid 1-5 pack at the Stinson Beach Relays and league meet. Lowell Invitational this Saturday will be good test for them.
Division IV Boys (Toughest division to call...teams here definitely keep a low profile).
1) St. Mary's-Defending NCS Div. IV champions. Duffy is back with talented group behind him.
2) Moreau Catholic-Brian Fix leads the way for perennial NCS Div. IV contender.
3) Piedmont-Showed there is still life in this program at the Farmer Invitational.
Division IV Girls
1) St. Mary's-Very impressive at Ed Sias and Farmer's Invitational. Team to beat at this moment.
2) Arcata-Won first league meet with Allie Maher leading the way.
3) Piedmont-Didn't run everybody at Farmer but will be there at the end. Defending champions.
Division V Boys1) College Prep-Defending NCS Division V champions. Not quite at full health right now but still very solid team.
2) Berean Christian-Close loss to CPS in first BCL East meet. 9th at Ed Sias in Small School race but top Div. 5 team.
3) SF University-Haven't been able to race everybody together yet but history says they are at least top 3.
Stuart Hall is going to be a sleeper this year. Watch out for them.
Division V Girls
1) Crystal Springs Uplands-2 time defending NCS champions. Started season going 1-5 at first BCL meet
2) SF University-Young runners ran well during track season. Could challenge CSU if Cecilia Furlong skips volleyball to run xc.
3) Marin Academy-Alesandra Roger is back after back injury in track. Team ran well at Stinson Beach Relays.
College Prep is going to be very good this year as well with talented freshman (Adrienne Strait). Tough to tell how good with no competition in 1st meet.
Don't forget to keep voting in the poll to the right. Who is the best male runner in NCS?
Top 5 individuals (girls and boys) in each division will be posted shortly.

Division V Pre-Season Rankings
Boys 800: 1:54.73, 1:54.88, 2:00.37, 2:00.53
Girls 800: 2:15.39, 2:15.65, 2:24.39, 2:25.22
Boys 1600: 4:11.74, 4:25.73, 4:27.40, 4:31.38
Girls 1600: 4:57.35, 5:17.86, 5:18.35, 5:20.58
Boys 3200: 9:45.52, 9:50.25, 9:52.94, 9:54.03
Girls 3200: 11:35.87, 11:44.37, 11:54.98
Division V is a lightly regarded division but as you can see by the above times from the just completed Track season, there is certainly no lack of talent. Those times were all recorded by North Coast Section (NCS) athletes. If I were to expand to times from other sections, I would have to include a certain sophomore from Mission Bay, who happens to also be a Division V athlete.
SF University (UHS) had their streak of 10 NCS girls' titles broken by Crystal Springs Uplands (CSU) two years ago. The boys had their own streak of 7 broken last year by College Prep (CPS). Now if you were to conclude that the UHS team is on a downslide, think again. The Red Devils finished in 2nd in both Division V races last year with scores of 62 for the girls and 68 for the boys. During Track, they had two runners qualify for the state meet (Andrea Imhoff in the 1600 and Elliot Wehner in the 800). Both teams return the majority of their top 7 from last year and will be a factor once again.
Based on the success of the Division V boys' team the past three years, the NCS gained one more entry into the state meet this season. At last year's state meet, 4 NCS teams placed in the top 11 with the top two teams, CPS and UHS, in 2nd and 4th respectively. With the extra entry this year, more teams will now have the incentive for a state meet run. The top two teams will once again be CPS and UHS. They return the most experienced group from last year's teams with College Prep getting the nod based on the strength of their top three runners, Jamie Lawrence, Casey Knudsen and Charlie Sauter. The rest of the top five will be a battle between Bay Counties League West rivals Lick Wilmerding, Stuart Hall and Crystal Springs Uplands. Berean Christian with the return of all their talented sophomores will be in the mix as well. Several teams from up north could be a factor with South Fork and their two impressive seniors while Rincon Valley Christian and St. Vincent return their entire top 7. St. Joseph Notre Dame drops down to Division with their top four runners returning.
With the graduation of St. Helena's Brian Cole, the individual favorite will be Hank Carl of South Fork who finished 2nd last year. Carl had a 10th place finish at the CA state XC meet and went on to record times of 4:35.64 and 9:49.84 around the oval. His teammate, Michael Radenbaugh, finished 16th last year in Hayward but watch out for him this coming season. He recorded 2:00.53 and 4:36.64 during the 2007 Track season. Victor Ho is the next best returner from last year's NCS XC meet with a 4th place finish. Time will tell if he is ready to challenge for the individual title as he had a subpar ending to his Track season. The remaining contenders for the individual title will all be seniors this year: Zach Nave of Santa Rosa Christian (2:05.03 and 4:31.38), Thomas Bliska of Marin Academy (4:39.87 and 10:02.55) and Jamie Lawrence (4:35.10).
The girls race should shape up to another clash between CSU and UHS. Both teams lose a senior who has been instrumental in their success the past four years, Maddie Rozwat for CSU and Andrea Imhof for UHS. They both return 5 out of their top 7 and will be formidable again in this section. An impact freshman will be necessary for both teams to get back to the state meet podium. Marin Academy is the next best team but their success will hinge on a healthy return of Alesandra Roger. College Prep returns 4 out of their top 7 from last year and will be in contention for the state meet after just missing last year. The best team out of the north appears to be Sonoma Academy and their front runner, Grace Hafner, a state meet qualifier last year.
The girls' individual battle will be an interesting one. Defending champion, MA's Roger, will be a senior but had her track season curtailed by a back injury. Her health is still in question so we won't know of her status until mid-season. CSU has the next top returners with senior Alysha de Souza and junior Aimee Raleigh. de Souza recorded personal records on the track running 5:28.85 and 11:44.37 while Raleigh recorded a 9th place finish at the XC state meet. UHS could possibly have their own dynamic duo with Margaret Wehner who had an outstanding freshman Track season with 2:24.39/5:17.86 clockings. Cecilia Furlong was impressive on the track with 5:31.76 and 11:35.78. She has played Volleyball in the past so her participation is questionable.
Division V Boys (Top 5 Advance to state)
1) College Prep-Have the best firepower up front.
2) University-They will, at the very least, finish 2nd.
3) Lick Wilmerding-Return 5 of top 7 from 4th place team.

2) University-In position to reclaim their crown.

Division IV Pre-Season Rankings
When you look at the past five NCS Division IV boys' races, two teams have top 5 finishes in every championship. The first team is Arcata which has finished 1st in 2002, 5th in 2003, 5th in 2004, 5th in 2005 and 3rd in 2006. Piedmont is the other team with the multiple top 5 finishes with a 3rd in 2002, 1st in 2003, 2nd in 2004, 1st in 2005 (state champions) and 2nd in 2006. St. Mary's College appears to have joined those two as one of the top teams in Division IV by finishing in 4th in 2004, 2nd in 2005 and 1st in 2006.
They will once again be the favorites to repeat this year as they return every runner except their #2, Rob Riccardi. Their leader is Matt Duffy who had a spectacular season last year winning several invitationals (Ed Sias Small School Varsity, Stanford Invitational Division IV, and the Clovis Invitational Division 4 Small Races), the NCS Division IV race and a 7th place finish at the state meet. Duffy went on to record times in Track and Field from 800 to 3200 of 1:58.72, 4:19.18 and 9:23.12. As one Division IV coach said, "Duffy should be able to change his shoes and start his cool down before 2nd place comes in."
With St. Mary's safely locked into the top spot for the team championship, Moreau Catholic seems to return the next best group of runners as they return their top 4 runners and their 6th man. They are also no strangers to success as they have won two NCS titles in the past six years. That would leave one spot remaining for a team to enjoy a Thanksgiving getaway in lovely Fresno, California. At the time of this preview, I will include Sir Francis Drake, Arcata and Piedmont in the battle for that last spot.
With Duffy as the strong favorite for the title, the following group of runners should be part of the chase pack: Brian Fix of Moreau Catholic (4:42.75 and 10:27.71), Kenny Smith of Willits (4:36.74 and 10:06.39), and Joe Withers of Cardinal Newman (1:59.60 and 4:33.51). Watch out for another Newman runner, sophomore Brian King, who was the fastest freshman racer in 12th place. With the ability to train and race with Withers, King should see great improvement during his 2nd year of XC.
During the middle of the 2006 season, Piedmont had problems trying to field a complete girls' team at several of their league meets. When it came to the championship part of the season, they put it all together to win the BSAL and NCS crowns. Quite a season to go from pre-season favorites, mid-season nobody's to late season champions. So here I am again picking Piedmont as the favorites for 2007. The order for the rest of the pre-season rankings will be very similar to the finish of last year's NCS meet with the lone exception being St. Mary's leapfrogging Moreau Catholic for the #2 spot. This is due to the return of their impressive top three runners, Alex Choy (5:23.22 and 12:03.33), Margot Sullivan (5:20.21 and 11:59.56) and Taylor Lawson (2:20.49).
The individual favorite will be Sarah Sumpter of Healdsburg who finished in 2nd place last year as a junior following a 46th place finish during her sophomore season. She also returns with the best track credentials with 1600/3200 times of 5:19.71 and 11:05.74. Not surprisingly, her closest competitors were all freshmen last year: Jamie Kent of Piedmont (11:05.97), Theresa Devine of Marin Catholic, Luz Mejia of Encinal (2:28.21, and Allie Maher of Arcata. Senior to be, Kelsey Ripp of San Rafael, will also be in the mix as she finished in the top 10 last year as a Junior.
Division IV Boys (Top 3 Advance to state)
1) St. Mary's College-Defending champions will make it two in a row.
2) Moreau Catholic-The Fix is in for next NCS finisher.
3) Sir Francis Drake-Bill Taylor's 25th year at the helm of the boys.
4) Arcata-Mystery team from up north will challenge again.
5) Piedmont-History puts them here despite rebuilding year.
On the bubble: San Rafael, Cardinal Newman
Top 5 returning individuals, (place) & 2006 NCS meet time:
Matt Duffy (6) St. Mary's College 15:25
Brian Fix (5) Moreau Catholic 16:08
Kenny Smith (7) Willits 16:10
Joe Withers (8) Cardinal Newman 16:18
Joaquin Smith (11) Arcata 16:23
Division IV Girls (Top 3 Advance to state)
1) Piedmont-Defending champions with 9 lives.
2) St. Mary's Colllege-Top 3 return to challenge Highlanders.
3) Moreau Catholic-One of largest Div. IV teams.
4) Arcata-Sophomore Maher will lead the way.
5) San Rafael-Can they crack the top 3 this year?
One the bubble: Sir Francis Drake, Ursuline
Top 5 returning individuals, (place) & 2006 NCS meet time:
Sarah Sumpter (2) Healdsburg 18:20
Jamie Kent (3) Piedmont 18:56
Theresa Devine (4) Marin Catholic 19:00
Luz Mejia (6) Encinal 19:33
Allie Maher (7) Arcata 19:39
Feel free to comment on above rankings. Division V coming soon.
