I'm not sure which one of our (St. Francis Sacramento) records is tougher for girls: 2:08.62, 4:46.42 (1600), or 10:20.97
Montgomery HS, Santa Rosa
Boys
Mel Gray, 1967
Won the state meet 220 at 20.7 seconds, breaking the National High School record that he had co-held at 20.9 with four others.
His 20.7y converts to about 20.82 for 200 meters and he also ran 20.9y 4 times.

By the end of 1967 the National Long Jump All-Time list looked like this. All wind aided.
26-5¾ Jerry Proctor, Muir, Ca 1967, the boy who beat Gray at State.
25-7¾ Eli Myers, Tolleston, In 1965
25-7¼ Mel Gray, Montgomery, Ca 1967
25-6¾ Bob Beamon, Jamica, NY 1965, went on to hold world record.
Girls
Hanne Thomsen 2025
Five state championships
3200m 10:06.89 2022, 9:48.98 2025
Cross Country Division III 2021, 2022 & 2023
PR’s 3200m 9:48.98, 1600m 4:35.69 and 800m 2:09.04
10:20.97 is slightly better than the 1600, which is. better than the 800.
I think for Davis High it would be for girls - Laurynne Chetelat in the 3200m at 9:52.51 and for boys - Sondre Guttormsen in Pole Vault at 18'2.75"
Vista Del Lago sprinter Will Greene's 2025 track season.
100m - 10.63 (5th fastest in SJS)
200m - 21.23 (2nd fastest in SJS)
400m - 46.62 (fastest in SJS)
800m - 1:57.18 (3rd fastest in school history)
2nd leg of 4x100 - 41.43 (fastest in SJS)
Anchor of 4x400m - 3:20.54 (4th fastest in SJS)
Will holds the school record in the 100, 200, 400, both relays, and the long jump from junior year (21'11")
Will is a wide receiver at Utah Tech University.
It looks like Rich Gonzalez counts his 18'10.25" from the European Championship as the state record.
The 46.62 is his most impressive mark. What about records for girls at Vista del Lago? What is the best one?
While Will Greene's VDL records from last year are impressive, he still isn't the section record holder in any events
That honor goes to VDL's Jake Grimsman high jump record from 2018 who set the Sac-Joaquin section record of 7'3'' that year.
Definitely the most impressive record from VDL boys historically.
On the girls side at VDL I would say Ceonna Pipion, who went 54.46 in 400m 2019. She jumped around universities but ended up running 52.28 at olympic trials last year.
Good call on that high jump record, Dodger! Very impressive!
One of the coolest things I saw last track season was at Kay's Ostrom Invitational, when Will ran a 10.63 100m, then followed that up a short time later with a 1:57 in his one and only 800m race of his career.
Amazing.
Hannah Rutherford - 53.70 400m meters (2024 & 2025 state runner-up), 3x section champion
Garrett Rowe - 8:55.71 3200m
Pleasant Valley HS (Chico)
Boys: Jackson Hein (800m - 1:50.87 - 2025) or Peter Slater (Triple Jump - 50-09.50 - 1996).
Girls: Hannah Hodgkinson (3200m - 10:51.45 - 2004) or Brooke Whitburn (Long Jump - 19-01.50/Triple Jump 38-03 - 2013) or Nancy Wannamaker (Shot Put - 43-00 - 1987)
