Great score for the Norcal D2 program! Maybe this is the start of a renewing their rivalry with their Norcal neighbors, Chico State.
Foster looks like he had the fastest time coming out of CCS. Someone else to cheer for at Fresno this weekend!
Scott Pesch is a great guy and a good coach and he has done a good job rebuilding HSU over the past four years. That said, HSU is a strange university and any new student attending will need a huge supply of fortitude.

HSU is my alma mater, albeit I went years ago. It has a lot of excellent research programs in energy, oceanography, forestry and others, and some very good academic programs. It may not be your cup of tea, but to claim “any new student attending will need a huge supply of fortitude” is narrow-minded and discredits the school and Chris Foster’s decision-making. Thirty years after graduating, I love to take my family back and visit the cute town of Arcata, the redwoods, the ocean. And it is a fantastic place to run. Good luck, Chris Foster. Nice score, HSU.
Also Arcata isn't as foggy as it was a generation ago, which helps get you through the winter. Nice town, beautiful country.
I don't think the previous comment about "huge amount of fortitude" was directed about the school but about the cross-country/track program. As a ex-Lumberjack xc member, there has been a high turnover of teammates the last 10 years which can be attributed to high coach turnover and runners who didn't acclimate to the Humboldt sub-culture. The most recent departure was Jantzen Oshier (US#1 Prep mile time in 2012) who didn't last more than a year on the team.
That being said, Coach Pesch has had a great start with a lot of local support and alumni runners to encourage their existing core of runners to stay put for more than one year.
If HSU can score a couple of other low 16 5k preps under their limited scholarship space, then this might create a core group and encourage Chris or any new runners to compete for the Lumberjacks all 4 years.
I look forward every summer to go back to Arcata and run with my wife on the trails. :)
