Rankings will be up during the week.
Who was the most impressive at today's races? What did you think of the course? How much of a difference did the weather have on the morning and afternoon races? No JV races next year...what?!?

Iglehart's time blew me away. I say he will crush Jake Jeanson and win D5 easily. He might bring back memories of D5 star Tim Nelson.
will there be a way to watch that race if you can't see espn 360?
i was there all day and just got hotter and hotter. by the time of the seeded races it was smoking hot, well over 90. starting with the seeded races and working backward it was at least a 5-10 sec race disadvantage per hour. if you ran 16:00 seeded, it was worth 15:45-15:50 for D2. i would say it was 80 degrees when D2 ran and 90+ for seeded.
colleen lilig all the way...
monte vista boys and girls improved by so much. carlmont girls are amazing as usual, as the same with St.Mary's (berkeley) castro valley girls, though they are still the fastest D1 team, could've done better in my opinion. maybe petaluma guys could've done better in their seeded race too? the heat was definantly a HUGE factor. and carondelet was missing nicole hood, unfortunantly. the course, though relatively flat, was still challenging with the grass, turns, the occassional bumps and the people.
impressive meet!
btw, where was campolindo today???
I think a combination of the heat and hairpin turns made this course a lot slower then it appeared.
I though that Campolindo looked quite impressive in the DIII race.
There were alot of teams that had no business being in seeded races. Does anyone know if any elite teams wanted in the seeded races but couldn't get in?
Steven Iglehart FTW. 6th fastest time in the entire Stanford meet. He was also 10 seconds faster than fellow MCAL runner Erik Olson. That's the first time in over a year that Erik Olson has faced a serious threat from an MCAL runner. Also, I can start drawing comparisons between Iglehart and Jake Schmitt.
It's funny that just 18 months ago, Iglehart was having trouble breaking 5:20 in the mile!!!! He can now put 3 5:00 miles together after only his 2nd season of significant training.
@ Victor Ho
Yeah...that would be amazing if Steven could be like Tim Nelson. I think he should try to make nationals.
i thought that the D4/5 racers had the best race. every hour the temp seemed to raise like 10 degrees. Not taking anything away from those runners but i believe runners in DIII, DII, DI, and seeded had to deal with more heat/humidity.
no question it was REALLY HOT later in the day. cannot compare early day times to later day times
How did he go from not being able to break 5:20 in the mile to running 15:32 for a 5k? What dose he do for trainning? What's his mileage like?
lol...Iglehart is just talented. He trains about the same as everybody else.
That track season when he was running 5:20 miles, he didn't train at all before the season. Of course, I didn't mention the fact he dropped his time from 5:20 to 4:55 in the last 2 weeks of the season.
Track 2008 was the first season Iglehart actually trained for. He ran 4:30/9:34.
In his first XC season, he was 12th in the MCAL league as a sophomore (again off of no summer training).
I can not beleive Stanford is so cheap. The charge teams and fans to watch. But they only give award to the top 15 runners and only 1 team.
All the other invites give out awards to more teams.
Since Stanford does not recruit norcal than Norcal teams should not attend.
What happened to Carlmont girl's team? I thought they ae ranked one of the top teams in DI. Also, on Dyestat had San Clemente. Where were they?
This invite was ran very well, however, having the College race in the middle and the JV races next, this hurt some good DII, DI and seeded races in the end as the heat and course humitity got to a lot of runners. Times were slower and some runners were taken out at the end. Costing teams.
OOPs, even though dyestat said that San Clemente DI was going to Stanford, they ran at Dana Hills Invite instead. Alex Dunne ran a 16.33.7- 3 miler in the fog. What would she have done at Stanford?
The North doesn't even compare with the South!
Iglehart ran an amazing race today... although i didn't get to seee most of it because i was 2 minutes behind him in the same race.
the division 5 races this year for north coast will be interesting.
obviously university is the clear cut favorite. they only last 2 runners from their 2nd place state team last year, and replaced one of them with a sophomore who's just as fast if not faster now.
look out for berean christian though. their one-two punch of tyler deniston (7th 16:18) and matthew day (18th 16:46) is pretty powerful. i know that their 2 of their top 5 runners are just returning from injuries and have only been training for a few weeks. if they heal up, they may be able to sneak in a couple of runners to break up the university pack.
and of course, you can never count out college prep. led by charlie sauter (16th 16:35), they always have strong team.
lastly.... did anyone else notice that the d1 race had the slowest winning times of the day?
There's a reason why D1 was slower. If the D5 guys ran at 3:00pm instead of 9:00am, they would have been 30 sec slower. It was 70 degrees or so in the morning and 90+ by the time of the seeded races. A couple kids were taken away by ambulance later in the day. Even D2 & D3 had a huge advantage over seeded from a temperature perspective.
I was at stanford all afternoon and it wasnt really hotter for seeded than d1 or d2. Those times are close to the seeded times but the d3 times are way faster because of the wether.
Regarding the NCS-SJS-CCS boys followed by this website, it’s easy to understand why D3/D4/D5 looked so impressive comparatively. A.M. race conditions were perfect, and it was blazing hot in the afternoon, and somewhat humid. Adjusting for temps-no time credit for D3-D4-D5, giving 15 sec for D2 race, 25 sec for D1, and 30 sec for seeded, here are the performances in order for NorCal boys. You can argue about what time is reasonable, but to compare the morning races “even-up” with the afternoon races is unfair.

Just to add another perspective to all the discussion about the start times and heat effecting race times. I am just a parent of a runner...I was talking with a couple of major college coaches during the day and although they did not specifically say the heat was a factor, they commented that the times in the D 1 and Seeded races were "Impressive Considering the Heat" and that was after they saw the earlier times posted. Just for what its worth....
I agree with the parent above. It would explain why Gradone from Aptos, while a solid runner, would have a faster time at 10 a.m. than Rowe or MacQuitty would have in the afternoon, especially Rowe who raced in 90+ heat after 3 p.m. Gradone's just not in their league. Also consider MacQuitty was maybe 20 sec faster than Lema last week at Lowell and just behind Rowe, but Lema was about 20 sec faster than either of them at Stanford. Heat was a big factor for races 5 or more hours apart.
The heat was so awful...terrible... and the humidity too. No one should have to run in these terrible conditions! OMG
the must've had the sprinklers on all night because the course was soaked before noon
Very good observations by all. Interesting that in the seeded race when humidity and heat was horrific the two top teams from California were teams from hot environments.They probably thought conditions were comfortable for them. Arcadia and Davis.
We often times forget that we are not even halfway through the season and where kids are training wise plays a big part. Stanford is such a elite race yet not all kids are at or near there peak fitness for this one.
Right before the start of the seeded race, we noticed that Cherry's runners were all wearing spikes, unaware of the no-spike CA rule. They talked to their coaches about it, and thankfully the officials didn't care.
congrats to Campolindo and Monte Vista of danville reppin' NCS!
Relative to last year, the numbers only tell part of the story, but interesting none the less...
The course was flatter but the hairpin turns and the hotter weather (2007 high was 72.5, this year high was 87.4) resulted in slower times at Stanford.
All numbers are number of seconds slower than 2007
BOYS
D4/5 -> -1 (one second faster!)
D3 -> 16
D2 -> 12
D1 -> 34
Seeded -> 60
GIRLS
D4/5 -> 11
D3 -> 55
D2 -> 40
D1 -> 40
Seeded -> 40
We didn't look at JV since they ran 3K last year and 5K this year.

Why are there no videos?
Wow! Great comments from so many posters. If I could ask a favor. If you post a comment, please either use your name by signing in or just have your name at the end of the comment so we know who you are. It would be great to know who the people are that are posting on this blog.
Regarding the videos, I am sure Rich Gonzalez and Doug Speck of dyestatcal were in transit today and will post their pictures and videos as soon as they can.
yeah what was up with the heat just blazing up from the moist ground that was stupid. through out the whole day there was somebody soaking the ground on the only dirt part, like 200 meters from the finish, and by the end of the day it felt more like mud, than a trail that the earlier racers got to race on.
There are no videos up because the entire meet from the D2 races on were webcast live on ESPN360.com. I don't know about the other races in the morning though.
bellarmines jv team dominated.
there going to be really really good for the next 2-3 years.
