What schools besides private are doing this? SCCAL went to a 3 season model and ineligible for post season. SCVAL said they aren’t doing post season. So this is like 1/2 of CCS. Basically private schools and a handful of others. The only good news is CCS standards should ease as the 8th place marks are likely going to be slower.
I was told that the SCCAL will be participating in the two CCS track and field meets. SCVAL has already opted out of all sports so their absence is no different than any other spring sports this year. Despite missing some top athletes, the CCS meet will still be a quality event. Why take away the opportunity from athletes that could compete just because some league chose not to compete?
I was told that when the SCCAL went to three season model they instead withdrew from CCS competition this year. Glad they get to participate.
CCS will indeed see a reduced number of schools participating but still will be a good meet. And don’t hold your breath on those CCS auto standards. My guess is those in charge will find a way to not count this year.
I believe there are 3 leagues not participating this season: SCVAL, PCAL and PSAL (supposed to be new this year). Some PCAL schools participating in SCCAL for this year. Not sure if CCS will handle their entry slots separate from SCCAL. So 20 auto entries + any time qualifiers per event instead of 34 + if my math and assumptions are correct.
PCAL is happening, but some schools will not be participating. SCCAL added an auto qualifier based on the schools temporarily moving to that league while PCAL loses one.
Personally the new SCCAL is how it should be from here on out. Watsonville being in PCAL and not competing against other schools in their school district is odd.
Yay, for some sort of postseason. Getting their act together.
I imagine by now, people have heard that the SCVAL is reversing their earlier 'opt out' decision, and therefore CCS track will be a true, all CCS championship!!!
The SCVAL decision not to participate in the CCS playoffs hit the media which I can imagine put a lot of pressure on those administrators. It is indeed great to hear that they will compete at CCS.
