65th All-Norcal Cross Country Teams

NCS girls' runner of the year? Would love to hear what people have to say about who the best girl in NCS was this past season.
Colleen McCandless Granada
Gabrielle Peterson Healdsburg
Rayna Stanziano Concord
I am curious who you would pick for the above award. Comments welcome below.

What about freshman (boy) of the year in any section?

With one meet to go, you can check out last year's team at this link:

Feel free to make your nominations for Runners of the Year (boys and girls), grade athletes of the year, section runners of the year (SJS, CCS, NCS, NS, OAK and SF) etc.

Interesting that one of the favorites to win runner of the year for the girls is Del Oro freshman Riley Chamberlain. I looked back at past winners and couldn't find any freshman girls that have won that award. Did I miss one?

Lastly, if you are a coach and are interested in being part of the voting committee, please email me at albertjcaruana@gmail.com and I will send you all the information you need. We would like to have representatives from all the NorCal sections (SJS, CCS, NCS, NS, OAK and SF).

  9. Albert, who beat out Stamps and Bei?

  10. Bei was beaten out by Trina Cox of Santa Rosa when she was a freshman.

Julia Stamps doesn't appear on the list at all as a freshman.

  11. Gabrielle Peterson ran faster at State and beat her head up at FL

  12. At first look, on the girls side, it worked out that First Team - sub 18, Second Team - sub 18:30, and so forth...

We'll have them hopefully done immediately after next weekend!

Great job to all athletes despite the not so ideal conditions.

And many blessings to the victims of the Butte Co. Fires.

  13. Rayna unable to run FL due to illness, but would have been good to see her and Gabrielle head to head. Rayna improved most over last year after a stellar track season.

  14. Re: Female runner of the Year
Although all 3 girls had great seasons, I think you cant miss with Gabby Peterson:
Faster time at State. Handily beat McCandless head up at both FL West and FL Natioals.
    Congratulations to all 3 girls

  16. Riley Chamberlain - Girl of the year.

Best time at CIF state and earned her spot at NXN by being the #1 California girl selected (out of 5).

The rest of the Norcal girls in consideration for best runner, didn't make top 5 but still had good showing at Footlocker.

    Pretty obvious...

  17. I agree Riley Chamberlain had a great season but comparing NXN vs Footlocker diminishes what both Riley and Peterson accomplished at the end of the season. Riley had the best time at CIF state but finished 5th out 5 of the California contingent at NXN. Peterson wins CIF by the largest margin solo and finishes Footlocker as the #1 runner in California beating A few NXN runners who also finished ahead of Riley at Footlocker including London Culbreath. Peterson should be the Female runner Of the year.

  18. My 2 cents.

Chamberlain has been the best runner in NorCal throughout the season. She ran the fastest time at the state meet and qualified to NXN. Unfortunate to say but NXN is a beast compared to the Foot Locker West region race. I am sure Chamberlain would have had a great shot to win that race. Once you get to the Foot Locker national meet, you are going against 39 runners and that is definitely not as tough as the 200+ runners at NXN.

I think Chamberlain is the NorCal runner of the year and Peterson is the NCS runner of the year. That is my own opinion.

    Norcal girls did pretty good:
    41. Riley Chamberlain, freshman, Del Oro CA: NXN 62nd place; CIF Division 3 champion
    59. Gabrielle Peterson, senior, Healdsburg CA: Foot Locker 23rd place; Foot Locker West fifth place; CIF Division 5 champion
    98. Colleen McCandless, senior, Granada CA: Foot Locker 37th place; Foot Locker Wes 10th place; CIF Division 2 third place

  20. Junior Norcal Runner of year - Matt Strangio - Jesuit.

Any other year he would be overall Norcal Runner of year, but its Liam Anderson's time.
