I will post a preview for the meet tomorrow. Feel free to comment below on the individuals and teams competing in the seeded races on Saturday. Who else should we be aware of that is ready to be world famous (at least in the cross country world)?

ReplyDeleteCutting across the burned out area twice? Hope they mowed it and filled in all the gofer holes. I can tell you I have tripped a few times running through that area!
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that since the college races are running that new loop 3 or 4 times, they will be well groomed...I sure hope so!!!
ReplyDeleteWhatever race was requested by each coach is the race they will be participating in on Saturday. If a coach requested to be in seeded then that is their race. Unfortunately, we do not know who will race in the seeded races until those races begin.
ReplyDeleteKind of light on the marquee programs this year. I wonder if that is a result of taking last year off or the perception that this is the last year Stanford will hold their meet for the reasons others have expressed before.

ReplyDeleteBoth Anderson and Strangio are entered but I thought Strangio was injured and Anderson was opening at clovis?
ReplyDeleteStrangio ran at his league meet this week haven't heard any change to Anderson's plan to debut at Clovis.

ReplyDeleteThe loop resembles the old course when they sent you up the hill (onece for HS & twice for college). That was a solid course when Olympic caliber guys struggled to break 25. Miss those days. That said the dry area back then had tons of gopher holes. I wouldn’t count on it being well groomed. I doubt Stanford is even racing.
ReplyDeleteSaint Francis got beat pretty bad to finish 3rd. And without some big SS schools as well. I think NXN is out. Bellarmine right on their heals. Can Bell catch them by the end of the season?
ReplyDeleteSo, no Mackenzie, Saul, or Eng at Stanford? What gives? This is a big one so I don’t understand holding these kids out.

ReplyDeleteEng was at the meet but didn't run. There wasn't anything noticeably wrong, so hopefully it was something minor and he's back soon. Add him to the race and St Francis boys are probably still third but it's tight with Claremont and La Costa Canyon. They're definitely still in the hunt for NXN. Bellarmine is a good young team but isn't catching St Francis this year.
ReplyDeleteI saw Owen in uniform there yesterday. Guess it was a game time decision? If that is the case, he will hopefully be back soon. Hate to see these quality seniors hurt so early in the season.
ReplyDeleteI don't think St. Francis wants to risk anything racing guys who aren't feeling 100%, Stanford is a great meet but Clovis is so much more important.
ReplyDeleteStanford and Clovis Invites have the same value in a season. The state meet is much more important.
ReplyDeleteI believe La Costa Canyon, Claremont and St. Francis are all in Division II this year which means that would be quite a battle for the state team title as well as a spot at NXN.
ReplyDeleteYes, it will be a great DII battle at state this year. It looks like the liberal transfer rules in the SoCal sections have made an impact on the race.
ReplyDelete@12:25. Couldn’t agree more. The private’s no longer have the only show in town with no boundaries. They still have an advantage with funding but the gap is lessening.
ReplyDeletePlease take a look at the top teams in the state and check out how many of those teams are public schools. I will give everybody one guess on the most important factor that determines great programs. Anybody?

Head Coach. I don't think its as much the staff as as much the philosophy that comes from the head coach.

ReplyDeleteYou are only as good of a coach for the talent you have. That said a few know how to get the most out of what they have. Dan Gruber (Aptos) & Andy Chan (SHC) come to mind. But even they’ll tell you their team is only as good as who lines up at the start.
ReplyDeleteThe success of an individual runner is dependent on a) talent/genetics, b) motivation/work ethic/consistency, and c) opportunity. Program success, in turn, depends on having a sufficient number of kids with talent/genetics, providing a favorable team culture, and providing a correct/favorable training methodology that facilitates b and c above. And, I agree that school size can help with random distribution of sufficient number of kids with talent/genetics. And, I agree the socioeconomic status, which is clearly a factor, facilitates opportunity.
