Northern California Top 10 Track and Field athletes

You can check out my top 10 list of all California Track and Field athletes at this link:
http://ca.milesplit.com/articles/240299-top-10-california-hs-track-and-field-athletes

Check out how many NorCal athletes made the list and feel free to comment below on who I missed.

If we were to pick out the top 10 track and field athletes from Northern California regardless of event or sex, who would make your list? I will add names as they are listed below and eventually come up with a list 1 through 10.

  1. Is this All-Time or 2018?

  2. It's nearly impossible to rank athletes within different event specialties.... but here's my 2 cents:

    1. Mari Friedman
    2. Aidan Jackman
    3. Chinyere Okoro
    4. Sondre Guttormsen
    5. Jake Grimsman
    6. Maddy Denner
    7. Jett Charvet
    8. Tierra Robinson-Jones
    9. Alex Enos
    10. Liam Anderson

  3. A very good start with lots of deserving athletes. Who else could possibly be added to that list?

  4. Shouldn't state leaders be above non state leaders on your list? IMHO

  5. Assuming she gets back to her 2:07 level, Cathilyn McIntosh in the 800M should be considered one of NorCal's best.

  6. How about state record holders?

  7. 1. Sondre Guttormsen has to be at the top of the boys list as he broke a state record that went back 33 years.
    2. I would have Tierra Robinson-Jones at the top of the girls.
    3. Jett Charvet
    4. Jake Grimsman
    5. Liam Anderson
    6. Zachary Larrier
    7. Max Glasser
    8. Liam Anderson
    9. Olivia O'Keeffe
    10. Cathilyn McIntosh

Dark horse: Elena Denner. Ran 4:51 1,600 on Saturday all by herself, leading the whole way, with a pretty significant wind. I think she will have some say when all is said and done at state. I also can't keep Alex Scales off this post as he always performs in the big meets.
    10.

  8. Alyssa Brewer and Cathilyn McIntosh. 1st and 2nd at state last 2 years.

  9. You're right. Alex can probably be moved up a couple notches on the list after his CCS Top 8 jump. I think #1-4 are exceptionally talented in multiple events, even if they aren't state leaders.

  10. Liam behind Jett? Will they meet fresh at MOC?

  11. Personally I put Liam behind Jett because I would be surprised if Jett got anything worse than 2nd place at state. In the 3,200 there are any number of people who are in the mix for a state title (Liam certainly one of them), but would be no more surprised if he didn't medal as if he won.

  12. Liam vs Jett is an interesting matchup. They could potentially race each other in the 1600 so that argument could be decided on the track.

Alyssa Brewer was forgotten above. She could win her 3rd state championship in the 800 and only one girl has ever won four...Lindsay Hyatt Placer.

  13. Not including Brewer was a total oversight on my part. Despite not looking that great in her 1,600 at the Sacramento Meet of Champions, she is the reigning queen of the 800 in California and looking back at my list, would probably put her 4th in my top 10 at this point.

I also feel like the Boy's 800/1,600 at state will be really interesting. I think the 1,600 is wide open and have the feeling that some who run (and qualify in both) might be dropping the 800 to take their chances in the longer distance. Nobody in California has dropped below 4:10 in the 1,600 this year and I think that time is "softer" than the state leading times in the 800 or 3,200 for that matter. Should be interesting to see how things develop through leagues and sections.

  14. Now that Hank is stepping back at his Lynbrook site and Albert is mostly posting at MS and pulling back from posting content here, how will we get local content? It’s a sad day thinking that we are going backward in the amount of info available on local XC and Track.

  16. Albert and others, sorry, probably not the thread for this, but since @6:30am raised it, Hank mentions that other sites post coaching openings. Where are coaching vacancies in cross country and track generally posted? This is useful info to me since I'm moving into semi-retirement and have thought about helping out as an assistant coach (or head coach possibly) where there might be a need. Thank you.

  17. Anyone know what happened in the WCAL 3200 last night? The meet page does not show the results for that race. I know they get 2 autos but there are a bunch of guys that should be able to run the time. My guess is somewhere between 7-10 guys could have run under 9:39.

  18. WCAL Boys 3200M?

  19. WCAL qualified 8; the results are on athletic.net now...
