  1. Where is Alex Scales? He has had a rocky start but I can see him pulling it together by the end of the season

  2. Adrian Schroeder ran an insane 14:09 at Woodbridge. I would have put him as number 2.

  3. Jenna Miles beat both Hartze and Vandergrift on Saturday

    ReplyDelete
  4. The runners on the list are, for the most part, capable of beating other runners on the list. Right now, I just want to put the athletes that deserve to be in the top 12. Things will continue to change during the season.

  5. Yes, Jenna Miles pulled away from Hartze and Vandergrift with relative ease.

  6. Where is Alex Stout from Pacific Collegiate. Thought she might transfer to Santa Cruz and make a super team. Any sightings?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Have no idea about Alex Stout. I am assuming she is still at Pacific Collegiate but I have not seen any competition results yet for her. Rylee Bowen will probably be up there at some point in the season but she has been laying low as well.

  8. What has Anderson done SO FAR this year?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Dublin's 1-2 ahead of St. Francis 1-2 yet SF ranked ahead of Dublin? Should be a good one at Clovis.
Also Miranda could #1 when all is done.

  10. Thanks for doing the rankings Albert, gives us all something to talk about!

  11. Liam Anderson qualified for NXN last year as a sophomore and has been lightly raced this season. I am thinking he will be very good by the end of the year when the races count.

  12. What happened to divisional rankings?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I will post divisional rankings possibly after next weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anderson is big time, he comes from a great program, but in season rankings should be based on what have you done so far this season. I am sure he will be there in the end.
Example Claudia Lane footlocket champ will not open her season until Nt. Sac.

  15. I agree with @9:08. Even though his first few races were shaky, I still think he has tons of room to improve and might be on the list after clovis

    ReplyDelete
  16. Claudia Lane is injured and that is the reason why she hasn't raced yet this season.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree with 6:43 about Scales. He soloed a 9:13 in track. He deserves to be on the list. On a side note, I don't think Bellarmine is even running Clovis.

  18. Yeah, I also don't see Bellarmine on the Clovis list. I think this week's WCAL league meet (first of 3) will be interesting in terms of how St Francis and Bellarmine approach it. For WCAL league championship purposes, the final meet counts 50% and the first two count 25% each. What this means, and what McCrystle has done in the past when Bellarmine was dominating, is that a team can win the league championship by getting 2nd or 3rd in one of the first two meets and winning the other two. So McCrystle would run his B squad in one of the first two meets to rest the varsity guys and still win the league championship. But that obviously would be risky strategy for either Bellarmine or St Francis this year: for Bellarmine because St Francis is a threat to win (arguably the favorite), but for St Francis because Bellarmine has been missing some key runners and might come storming back in the next few weeks once they have a full squad. Will be fun to see!

  19. Is it possible that Bellarmine might actually not even be that good this year? Alex Scales, who was expected to be a top runner in the state, has been running slower than his freshman times. The extra 2 weeks Brooks extended his season after state could not have made a sizable difference in his current fitness. Many people with these "long" track seasons have already put down some fast xc times (e.g. Brodey Hasty). Maybe he is bouncing back from an injury, but that would be antithetical when seeing he ran slower at EB than at Lowell.

Everyone seems to be making excuses for them, talking about how they will formulate a full strength team by november. Face the facts people- they only had 2 guys under 16:35 at Earlybird. SF had their full 7 under 16:30, 5 of them under 16:07. Call me blind, but I can not see Bell winning WCAL. We'll see if they can still pull off a CCS title.

  20. @9:42pm. I posted before you, and don't know if your comment is directed at me. I said Bellarmine "might" come storming back, not that they would. Yes, it's also possible that they're not that good this year. None of us, it seems, is close enough to the program to know what the situation is with Scales' early-season results or what the situation is with the runners who were expected to be the third, fourth and fifth runners, all of whom appear to not be running (presumably due to injury, but again we don't know). So not making excuses, it's just too early to tell if this is all they've got or if they're going to be back to where they were expected to be. To me, the fact that Scales ran 9:13 in a solo 3200 just a few months ago (not to mention 15-low at Crystal last year) makes it fair to expect him to run stronger soon. The key is whether the other guys come back or not. If not, the Bells will have a great #1 but lack depth, which is the opposite for them in their recent history (usually incredible depth but no true stars)!

  21. St Francis at Toro recorded the #1 team time ever by 27 seconds. They may be bucking the current trend because they ran their top 7 at Toro where they scored 15 points and again at Pacific Tiger where they scored 23. Clovis should put a lot of the discussion to bed until the end of November. Too bad Bellarmine is not going to be there but since they are not running their best yet it seems like a good choice. Let's see what they do at Crystal before we declare them done for the season.

@7:48 neither Bell nor SF will run their top 7 at WCAL I. Both will rely on a high placement with their second 7 and a win at WCAL III to win the league title. Right now the money is on SF, but as many of us have already stated-counting out Bell this early is a fool's errand.

  22. Have not seen any results for Isabella Fauria of St. Francis this season. Would have expected her in top 10. Will she be back on roster before league finals? What is rule (if any) for a team to bring back an athlete after they qualify for regionals or state? Do they have to complete at the league finals?

    ReplyDelete
  23. In CCS, you have had to compete in at least 50% of your league meets to compete at the league final. You can petition to compete if you were injured and missed the necessary meets. I don't believe they have such rules in NCS. SJS, have no idea. Anybody?

I am certain that she will be back at some point this season. They will be very tough with her back.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Friedman from Santa Cruz is running very well and had two wins at Toro where she was well in front of pack. While Denner sisters from Oak Ridge are amazing, they have only run two league meets and in mid 19min for 3 mile....no invitationals as of yet. Will Denner sisters be running Clovis with rest of team?

    ReplyDelete
  25. in the SJS, we do not have any participation rules for league meets. So, you can run in a league final or section meet without running any previous meets.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Where is Zach Walker? He has had a phenomenal start posting second place at earlybird and an outstanding performance winning the Pacific tiger invitational in 15:25

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think Zach Walker is right there with the last few runners posted. At a certain point, I have to cut it off or I could keep going to infinity.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Denner sisters ran a conservative first mile (6:25) on Willow Hills per coach instruction and still finished a course in 18:40 and 19:20 respectively. And Willow Hills course is over a minute slower than Toro. If they both don't go sub 18 at Clovis I would be surprised. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. And in SJS, league meets other than champs are going away in favor of invites. Most of the big leagues, only had 1 regular season meeting.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Fauria hasn't run this year, yet.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think zach walker deserves to be on top 12 rather than ryan wilson because zach ran 15:48 at toro and won pacific tiger while ryan ran 15:54 at toro and won his league meet. I don't know about you guys, but to me, zach walker definitely deserves to be up there.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Didn't Zach Walker beat both of the runners from St Francis in a head to head meet?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes. Zach Walker won Pacific Tiger going head to head against SF. He should be ranked ahead of them.
At Toro it was following a Thursday league meet at Montgomery Hill

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ok, made the change. It's perfect now, right?

    ReplyDelete
  35. How many of these boys will be in the champ race at clovis? Rankings should become clearer and more appropriate afterwards.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I do not agree that Walker should be ranked over the two St. Francis boys. In two races at Toro Park, he was only able to run about 10 seconds back of the time Kumar and Colonna ran on their own.

Clovis should definitely clear up this debate.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Albert, Claudia Lane is not injured, she opened her season running 37 seconds faster than she did last season on the same course.
Plan has always been to be fresher by not racing as much early according to reports on mile split.

  38. Any links to list of teams running Crystal Springs this weekend? Athletic.net only lists 10 teams.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Crystal Springs uses DirectAthletics, so I think the full list should be there...this might work!
