Unfortunately, this is what happens to seniors now that the NCAA added an early signing period for XC and Track. A lot of seniors do their official visits between Sept. and Oct. and as a result miss ealy meets and often don't run as well because they miss training and have jet lag. It is hard to figure out what these kids should do: concentrate on their senior season, forego visits and either miss out on the early period or sign with a team sight unseen; or try to balance team and self interest to get the best information so they can make a decision during the early signing period.
It's a two edged sword since if you have an athlete that is making college visits, you as a coach also have a very talented athlete. I think as with most situations, communication between coach and athlete is most important.
