  1. If running at Toro early in the season is key for CCS teams, it looks like the Chieftain is as good as the Earlybird this year.

  2. Clovis is October 7 http://www.clovisxc.com/

  3. Crystal Springs is on October 14th, not the 7th.

  4. The Serra Crystal Springs Invitational will be held on October 7th (confirmed by meet director).

  5. Same day as Clovis. That's a real problem for some of the better teams that want a state preview.

  6. Mariners (at the NCS course)?

  7. If you want a state preview, seems like you have a pretty easy decision.

  8. Ram invite Sept.23th and Artichoke on Sept 30th ? The other date seem to be a week off?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Ram is always last Saturday in September and Artichoke is always first Saturday in October.

  10. Serra Invite is usually the same day as Clovis anyways...not sure why it's a real problem now instead of before...Teams decide between the two...Sadly for HMB Artichoke, Serra is on the same day which normally it is not. Usually Serra is in mid-October.

  11. I'm trying to get coaches to replace Stanford with the Pacific Tiger. Only meet on that day, 5k golf course, accessible to many sections. We need a flat 5k and good competition for some good early times. Who is in?

    ReplyDelete
  12. It's a great course to run fast. Flat as a pancake though a bit soft from watering in some places. It was quite warm, 80-90 degrees with some decent humidity (but that's nothing new compared to Stanford). The start is super narrow, we still started behind a tree. Course is not marked well as the golf course limits flagging so jog the course beforehand.

All criticisms aside it was a good fast 5k early season. Last year was our first year on the course & I'd rate it a solid 8/10.

  13. The pacific tiger is the place to be this year. I am sure Josh can ask the course to not water the night before so the footing is fast and we can rip some good early times. All we need is a group of elite NS, SJS, and CCS teams to come up to the delta to throw down! Let's get it on!

  14. Per Crystal Springs schedule the Serra inv. is on October 14. I also asked the Serra coach a few weeks ago at CCS and he said Oct 14th. When did you talk to him Albert?

  15. I got an email on June 21st from Ron DiMaggio that the Serra Crystal Springs Invitational will be on October 7th.

I will double check if this is indeed the case.

  16. Pacific Tiger is 9/23 no doubt! See you there.

  17. While I can't say it is definitive, It has to be pretty close: the schedule from Bob Rush, linked on Hank's Lynbrook site, lists the Crystal Springs/Serra Invite occurring on Sat. Oct. 14...

Also, it was a blast to watch CCS alums competing at the USATF championships in Sacto this weekend. Vanessa Frazier, Nikki Hiltz, Shannon Rowbury, Maddie Fagan, Jeneba Tarmoh, Andre Chapman...and I am sure there were many more that I missed/have forgotten. The heat was oppressive, but the competition was great.

  18. How are the Chiftain, Earybird, and CCS meets going to handle the new utilities installed in the start area at Toro? The one near the start line might require splitting the line in two. The one at the first turn may cause a quicker funnel.

    1. I think you answered the question... For Earlybird at least we may look at having runners go around both sides of the one by the first turn with our large fields... We'll see...

  19. CCC approved invitationals changed the Serra Inv. Date from 10/14 to 10/7 updated in 6/21.

Looks like the crystal springs excell sheet wasn't updated? Anyone have confirmation one way or the other?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I have the DEFINITIVE: From Ron Dimaggio, Meet Director of the Crystal Springs Invite, the meet is on OCTOBER 7; the Crystal Springs spreadsheet will be updated.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Why did it change?

    ReplyDelete
  22. With all these changes, it's even more important to sign up for the Pacific Tiger early since there is limited availability. Best replacement for the now defunct Stanford meet. See you in the delta!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm starting to hear a lot more about the Pac Tiger meet from coaches in the CCS. It looks like a good alternative, given that we will not be racing at Stanford this year.

    ReplyDelete
  24. My guess is with Early Bird a week later and the location of ccs that most teams will throw down there.

    1. We already have a few teams coming to Earlybird that normally do not come with the earlier date... That along with our regular attending teams will make for a great meet... Teams won't race head to head with grade level races but plenty of competition in each race and team times at the end to see where everyone stacks up... Should be more competitive with a week later in the schedule... Some kids may be on their 2nd or 3rd race by then and more race fit... Working on meet preview and some nice line-ups!

  25. I think a few teams will actually go to the Chieftain instead of the Earlybird because it is getting a little deep into the season to race in classes rather than as a team of 7, especially for the more elite teams. We shall see.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Deep in the season? It's week 2. Your top 7 don't need to run in the same race until November. Most top teams don't really start even racing until October.

  28. I think the Pacific Tiger being the new go-to 5k meet makes travel to the Earlybird the week before hard to do. I hope they move the meet back to its earlier date so we can do both.

  31. This site, athletic.net, and the section website have sjs finals listed as Friday the 10th, but most teams have the meet listed as the normal Saturday. Does anyone know if the decision to have it on Friday this year has been finalized? I know it's been on Friday when Veteran's Day is recognized on Friday in the past, but it was not last year.
