Anyone know if there will be a live stream this year and where I can find it? The meet has been streamed some of the past few years. Hoping it will be this year, as I doubt I can make it :(
ReplyDeleteI don't think there was one last year. If there is one this year, the link would be on the NCS website. Also possible, somebody will video the races and post them on youtube. Then it's just a matter of finding them.

ReplyDeleteThe pace of the CCS 1600 will be interesting. Scales will lead, try to keep it slow, and kick in the last 150. Estrella will hang back early and go sooner than Scales. Munoz and Colonna will keep it steady and have the best chance at battling for the third place slot. The wildcard is Gomez who has run some great times but also has pulled up with 600-800 to go if not in the mix, especially if he has an 800 to run later (in this case 1 hour later). Will be fun to watch!
ReplyDeleteThe race needs a rabbit but don't see anybody going out there and really hammering the pace.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for a rabbit, especially in the case where there is NO chance for an "honest" pace without one. It is possible that Gomez will do that for Adam since that has happened in the past. If that is the case, everyone will benefit except for Scales and Estrella, who will run any kind of race they need and still take first and second.
ReplyDeleteGood analysis except for the fact that it's hard to believe that Gomez, who has a great kick, is going to go out there and grind out two difficult opening laps just to fade away at the end.... especially considering he has the 800 think about.
ReplyDeleteGomez is a tactical runner. If the early laps are not to his liking, he will likely phone in the last 2 laps. I think Albert has it right. The first 2 are pretty much set, and there is a 3-way race for the last spot. It will be interesting to see if either Scales or Gomez, if he makes it, pull out of the 1600 at state if they also qualify for the 800. That could mean that fourth or even fifth place has a chance to go. When does that decision have to be made?
ReplyDeleteMeet management must be notified that night. Entries go out the next morning. Also at state there is honest effort rule. If they do not scratch he must run or he's disqualified from every event.
ReplyDeleteAmazing for the OAK Section that their strength seem to be in the distance races, with the exception of Henry Larkin. They still have a way to go for scoring but I'm impressed with Oakland Technical distance program. Of course, I'm a bit bias having graduated from Tech some 30 years ago. Go Bulldogs!
ReplyDeleteIndeed they are. They have two girls in 3200 who could win CCS and would have a shot at state in NCS. How often can you say that?

ReplyDeleteI believe for stepping inside the lane on first turn... It must have been appealed and reviewed and then he was re-do... Not 100% sure though...

ReplyDeleteHe was initially disqualified and the field for the final was announced. He was reinstated and the final will now have 13 entrants instead of 12. My runner is the #1 alternate but he will need two athletes to scratch in order to compete.

ReplyDeleteHe made state in 800 and almost won. Looks like it worked out pretty well for him.
ReplyDeleteWe used to not film NCS MOC because there was a live feed that could be played back after the fact. After a few years of not having the live feed we decided to film today. Thank you to AVHS alum Smita Nalluri for filming a large percentage of the races. I think the quality was pretty good today. We have them up at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJW2TUqL8xkLTyj_bX6PFaQ. I agree with Andrew that it's not the same as a live feed, but it's what we got.

ReplyDelete@9:59 Jason has been racing for 7 years. He knows when a race isn't going to give him the result he wants. Backing off and conserving for the 800m just 1hr later was smart move. My only beef would be if you're not "likely" to give max effort in both events, don't double. Let another athlete advance from the semis. It would have been Chris Anderson in this case.
@11:20 You called the rabbit. I didn't pick Munoz. It got him to the state meet with a 4:16 PR. It worked great for him and forced Estrella to go sooner than expected. Scales used just enough effort to win.

won all 7 of the invitational races he's been in this year.
Great runners push to the brink, as Alex has done this entire
season, and they manage to come out on top.
Personally, I respect anyone who knows how to win in so many
different ways, and it doesn't matter if it's by 1 inch or
20 meters.

@ 8:55 I think he means that Scales's 800m victory was not as easy as people seem to think or take for granted, given how close he was to losing to Gomez at the line. That being said good show for Gomez and Wilson as well - CCS should be well represented at state.
ReplyDeleteBrad, I think the post came accross that he did "just enough to win." As in cruised then kicked for an easy win. It wasn't easy. Alex is awesome but had his hands full. As for the 1600 if he didn't notify meet management at the meet he is running it. If he scratches he's out of the meet.

ReplyDeleteI was just suggesting based on his 4:09/1:50 potential he ran those races conservatively with just enough effort to win. Anyone watching could see he held back, 20m+, as long as possible to kick to victory.
Any idea what has happened to Reonna Collier. I think this would had been her last year at vacaville but against she didn't run. What a wasted talent.
