  1. @Anonymous 10:38, I'm really hoping you are being sarcastic. If this is one of Coopers friends trying to poke fun at him, I get it. I do it all the time to him. But if this is someone's actually opinion, you need to check yourself out. If you are going to talk smack, at least don't be a coward and show who you are. You must feel real big and powerful hiding behind that Anonymous tag making fun of a 16 year old kid, who by the way, I can guarantee is faster than you ever were in your life. This kid is something special and he's not going to let this race hinder him throughout the next season and a half. His work ethic is insane. I've never once seen him have a bad workout. He's never complained about doing any workout or doing extra workouts. If you think people across the country know about Rocha or Hunter, next season people are going to be talking about Teare. I hope he really doesn't pay as much attention to idiots like you as I do.

Again, if this remark was sarcastic I just made a clown of myself on the internet. but if it's not, then you my friend are a classless and heartless human being. And Cooper, just keeping on grinding man.

  4. Missing out by fractions of a second is hard to take but can be a great motivating factor. My son missed going to the JO nationals by .06 last year. He used that experience this season to achieve his goals. I suspect that Cooper will do the same this spring and next fall. Good luck to him!

  5. More CA teams deserved to be at NXN.

  6. I deleted a negative post above which seems pretty silly considering all the success Copper has had throughout his high school career. I do agree that the narrow miss will motivate him even further and he will have a great track and field season. What some people don't understand is that qualifying meets such as Footlocker and national meets such as NXN are VERY competitive. We get used to see our local runner dominating races in CA but when they compete nationally, they face a lot of runners who are just as talented and some even more.

Congratulations to all the NorCal runners that raced yesterday. I am sure it was a learning experience for all.

  7. Any chance the Merc will release the XC awards this week? Curious that they have the CCS picks for almost a week but have not put them out for public consumption.

  8. Why do you all care about these stupid lists?

If you want to know who's in it look at walt's rankings and check off anyone in Santa Clara and San Mateo County.

That's how they do their list. It's not like football or valleyball it's just a list.

  9. As we have seen from the NXN picks and snubs - lists matter, especially if they are done by the likes of Rich and others with power.

  10. On another issue, what happens if the chip on the shoe beats the chest, or the other way? While Cooper still would not have advanced, the photo finish shows one of his shoes and his chest beating the 10th place guys trail shoe. What if the chip were on his trail shoe and Cooper's were on his lead? The computer would say that he had won in error. Would they go back and look at the tape, and what would cause them to do that? Would the other guy have to protest or is it automatic like reviewing a score in the NFL?

  11. In the age of chip timing, it's the chip that determines who finishes first in a race. I know at the CA state meet, the runners wore 2 chips, one on each shoe. Did they do the same at the Footlocker meet. As for the close finish between 10th and 11th place, I am sure they went back and checked the finish live video to make sure the places were correct as posted on the results.

  12. Only 1 chip at footlocker yesterday in early races. Not sure if the seeded races had 2. Are people okay with with timing the foot or feet rather than the chest? I know it doesn't come up as much in XC as it does in track but that could be the difference in winning and losing, individually and as a team. I remember when one team had 2 ties at CCS and any position change, 1-6 could have been the difference.

  13. It's definitely an issue but the way I see it, everybody is being timed the same way and first person with their chip over the line wins.

  14. Under what rules does the "chip" determine the victor. All of the rules I know and read say it is the first chest across the line. Please provide me with the specific rule reference so that I may then start the official process to have it revoked.

  15. To my prior note, the chest is the determination in USATF, NCAA, IAAF, etc. I also believe it to be the same in High school...so I am curious as to who and where the competition rules have changed.

  16. George,
You are absolutely right that the chest (upper torso) determines the winner in close finishes. When timers go back and review any close finish, that is how the winner is determined. However, when you have a race like the state meet with over 200 runners, are they going back and checking every place or is the place being determined by the chips?

  17. I think this will be a moot point soon as colleges have gone to a chip in the bib and it is likely that HS will follow shortly. But until then, the foot chip, while not the most accurate, is certainly better than the guy yelling "it's black then red, stay in order......" as a method for timing invitationals and the state meets.

  18. Albert,
Not true, it is the chest that still determines the winner. Any result within 0.3 triggers the timer to review by camera.

  19. Cooper will focus on school, staying healthy and will move on. He's a class act. Congrats on a great season.

  20. I stand corrected. I coach and leave the timing to the experts.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Just to answer above, seeded race only had one chip at foot locker yesterday

  22. Chip or no chip
    Foot or chest
    Try to get a grip
    Cooper ain't the best
    He lost
    Mestler showed him who's boss

  23. That's not the point of the discussion. Cooper is a good kid, as most of the XC kids are. They are typically as humble in victory as they are in defeat. Studies show that XC, wrestling, and swimming produce the highest percentage of CEOs. Self-starters, dedicated, hard-working, etc.

What the commenters want to know is the technical aspects of timing when chips are used. As always, there are enough informed people on this site to get to the answer.

  24. Anyone notice the never ending HS football season? They play through all of December with 13 divisions!

  25. How does Oak Grove go from D2 to D1? Milpitas D1 to D3 (they are a huge school, why are they D3?)

    Makes no sense...

  26. Albert, delete these football posts. They are more offensive than the trolls beating up on Cooper.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Albert, some comments on here are ridiculous. There needs to be some control by you as a moderator in a discussion that is clearly targeting a certain kid. Not an adult, but a kid

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think the football posts are relevant on many levels. First football divisions at the state regional are seeded for competitive equity. That's how Milpitas moves from D1 to D3. This will trickle down to the minor sports in the next few years. This is happening people.

Second divisions change after the section championship? Forever sections have stated all they care about is THEIR section championship. This is not the case here. Teams are reseeded in different divisions. Though it does still hold to the geographic state championship north vs. south. Can cross country emulate such a model?

  29. It's funny because I am willing to bet that everybody that has commented on here has been beat by Cooper Teare. He's never starting any drama, just out there running as hard as he can every race of the year. He's going places and I can't wait to be able to say that I ran against him in high school

    ReplyDelete
  30. Cooper is a great kid and a great talent. There are only one or two people on here that post multiple times who have a grievance. It's easy to make a target of people who are successful.

    ReplyDelete
  31. There are only one or two pepole who post most of the positive on stuff Cooper too. I think the tendency by these people to post anything and everything this kid does has brought out the trolls. Even Bellarmine thinks Coopers Dad is way too excited about him. We get it. Cooper and Bellarmine are good.

  32. Anyone notice that Zach Walker of Willow Glen won the Footlocker sophomore race?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes, he ran 16:54.5 in the Soph 2 race. The winner of the Soph 1 race ran 16:52.7, and there were 10 Sophs that ran under 16:43 in the seeded race. Tough course, good times!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Robert Miranda from CCS ran 16:20 in seeded race - one of the Sophs mentioned above. Not sure if other Sophs were from NorCal

    ReplyDelete
  35. 4 from the SS, 2 from the SD and Miranda from CCS. The other 4 are from other states.
