Obviously a bright future for this young lady. Looking forward to seeing to seeing her lace up her racers for one last run around Willow Hill. She's been the most dominant runner in the Sacramento area in the time my son has been running thigh school cross country. Since their schools compete in the same league and attend many of the same meets, I've had the pleasure of seeing her run several times including her two state championships. Best of luck to an incredible talent on the next step in your life at Stanford.

DeleteMy personal, non-official update on SJS. D1 Girls, Fiona and Davis are the class of the field, entirely possible that Davis could go 1-2 with O'Keeffe and Castiglioni. in the D1 Boys Jesuit and Davis are clearly the 1-2 teams and overwhelming favorites to get the two state spots, the individual race should be a good one with Vernau of Davis (#2), Grijalva of Armijo (#3), Kurdy (#9) and Holland (#15) of Jesuit with 4 of the top times at Willow Hill of all time going at it, the only person to run faster than Vernau is none other than German Fernandez . Bella Vista is a strong favorite to win the Girls D2 section title and is in the mix on the boy's side (along with about 3-4 other teams) with deep teams on both sides. The rain has settled the dust at Willow Hill and weather is projecting a high of around 66. It should be a pretty fast course for the top teams and runners, though D1 and D2 run in the afternoon when temps will be about 10 degrees warmer than in the morning.

Hope Fiona runs
Everything I have heard is that they have been extra careful with Fiona. During the Delta League meet she was running all over the place with their big flat, cheering on her teammates. Both Willow Hill (league and sections) and Frog Town have pretty steep, rocky drops, so no point in risking her when she certainly has the capability of running competitively through NXN. As much as she hasn't raced (to my knowledge) since the Stanford Invitational, she has still raced more than her strongest California competition, Great Oaks' Destiny Collins. Austin Tamagno is another elite who has raced significantly less this year, which seems to be a growing trend.
ReplyDeleteUpset of the meet, Sections SJS, Rio will not qualify a team to state, either boys or girls only individuals and Vista will enjoys it's last season on top.

DeleteI understand that Rio's #2 is hurt, a loss that would be difficult for even the deepest teams to recover from. Hate to see any kid who has worked so hard, not be able to compete in the post season. And though I am not as familiar with D3, my experience has always been that top programs have a way of getting the most out of their runners. Now that my son is a junior, I can point out several "elite" runners who were not exceptional as freshman, and in some cases, even as sophomores (Vernau and Holland come to mind). In strong programs, they found their groove and are now among the best runners in NorCal.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting how rumors can fly. Rio's number 2 took the SAT last week end and ran very well today. Rio's boys 2nd qualified for states. Rio's girls 2nd qualified for states. Vista looks very strong for next year only loosing 1 girl in there top 7 and the boys look strong also with lots of depth.
ReplyDeleteWhatever, Rio and Vista are done next year. Enjoy the ride. Just wait until Track, both teams will not even push a runner through to sections, guaranteed, just like last year. Truly great runners run at both XC and Track state champs. They made it to state for xc, good, now show how good you are. Winning SJS is mediocre at best. Neither team will be top 10 at state so who cares. Step up or shut up.
ReplyDeleteI think both Rio and vista took some runners to masters last year and this year. Also both teams have a very good frosh soph team which will replace the outgoing seniors
