All results are now posted.  Some great battles today.  Best team race?  Best race for individual title?  Biggest surprise?  Who are the state meet contenders?  Who are the CCS teams and/or individuals with a chance at a podium finish (top 3 teams/top 10 individuals).

  1. Congrats to both girls dipping under 17!

Biggest surprise is Calmint finishing second. So the Bellarmine runner up finish is broken?

  2. Best team race D2 Boys, 8 points separating top three teams.

  3. D2 was a great race to watch. but I have to say that scotts valley winning D4 was just amazing. on a side note, that made for the SCCAL going 4/4 in all of their respective races. between aptos, SLV girls and SV boys, they dominated. Out of curiosity though, why was it that Ratliff of Santa cruz ran D3 while walgren of santa cruz ran d4?

  4. Just for fun I scored the top five teams (based on team time) running in a 5 way meet. There were three ties at 18:26, 19:05, 19:07. In those cases I assigned the same place for each runner (for instance both runners at 18:26 scored 7, the next runner at 18:35 scored 9...eliminating 8)
    The results were interesting:
    1-Aptos 55 (Faster 6th runner)
    2-Monte vista 55
    3-SLV 61
    4-Gunn 77 (Faster 6th runner)
    5-St Francis 77

I know...I have too much time on my hands.

  5. But Unfortunately not a 5-way Meet. Score it as a whole and Add Team Times. That's what will go into the Books and respective Divisions! Great Job to All those Teams Big or Small.

  6. As a Homestead XC alumnus, I just wanna take the time to congratulate the Homestead boys XC team, and their coach, Kenrick Sealy, for qualifying for the state meet as a team for the first time in, to my knowledge, the school's history.

Overall, good job to everyone who raced today and good luck to everybody going to state in two weeks.

  11. To 5:51 PM,
Like I stated: the 5 way meet breakdown was JUST FOR FUN.
I don't mean to slight SLV. If you look at the all-time list their 1:32:58 team time is the third best ever, just a second behind the 1:32:57 they ran at the Crystal Springs invite this year.
SLV had the fastest team time today, 18 seconds ahead of Monte Vista and 51 seconds faster than Aptos.
This is all meaningless I know, but I like playing with the stats. I know there are others as well that like to crunch and compare numbers.
I always like looking at the Combined Results, but unfortunately they weren't provided...not a criticism of the timing company, they obviously did a great job.

  12. By the looks of it the last "mile" (0.95) is just gnarly. Boys running 5:00 mile pace through 2 miles running 5:30+ for the last 0.95. And that's the D3 boys winner. That's almost a 6 min last mile! Girls too. Robinson ran 5:35 pace through 2 miles. Did better only running 5:50 (6:08 pace, 33 seconds per mile slower).

Just some general observations, do kids just start too fast or is the closing 0.95 just that hard?

  13. It is very hard, some manage it better than others.

  14. I loved being able to see the split times and noticed the same time break downs in the last .95. My son runs now but I ran that course many times as a 'kid' and concur that it is a very tough finish.
Great job by the runners today. Some impressive performances and such a positive and healthy CCS vibe.

  15. At full health and with complete teams, Aptos easily defeated SLV at last weeks SCCAL Championships. Would be awesome to see Aptos and Monte Vista girls go head to head! Good luck to all CCS athletes at state!

  16. Its hard not to start hard on the course and then really get zapped after the first hill. then the last mile has a pretty steep but short climb that leaves runners drained for the last 1000. it tends to be a pretty common trend to go positive splits at crystal springs. great to see the bells win though. separate note, who do we decide were the co-ed winners?

  17. Check out the course elevations: http://www.prepcaltrack.com/ATHLETICS/MAPS/crymap.jpg

The last "mile" is the only one that is net uphill, thus, it's no surprise that it's the slowest.

  18. Anyone have combined team results: team scores and team times?

  19. CCS Combined (only to the second) as well as Coed (2G+3B and 3G+2B) are posted at:

MontE Vista is an NCS school, you mean MontA Vista which is part of the SCVAL.

  20. Kinda quiet. Not much to talk about?

    ReplyDelete
  21. OK. I'll talk. The times were slow this year for the boys, fast for the girls, am I correct?

    ReplyDelete
  22. That was a pretty good senior class of boys that graduated last spring right?

Same for the senior girls but talented freshmen girls replace those senior girls at a much higher rate than talented boys do with recently graduated senior boys.

  23. 19 boys under 15:40 in 2009 (37 under 16)
    21 boys under 15:40 in 2011 (40 under 16)
Only 13 boys under 15:40 this year (only 28 under 16)
Yes, it seems as if it was slower for the boys this year. Weather? Did the wind slow it down?

    ReplyDelete
  24. lets be honest,?the top end talent for the girls is best in the United States (two FL finalists). Taking out the top few the girls were down too. Not sure what it was but it was not a fast day. Look at Aptos girls, while a few had a good day they are all 18:40 girls.

Anyone care to do a breakdown of the top 25 or so boys and girls and see how they compare to the predictions?

    ReplyDelete
  25. wow this must be the first time in a while SI isn't going be represented at the state meet on either the boy or girls side. the boys side looks extremely young though.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Remember that 2009 had perhaps the best weather possible and 2011 was not nearly as windy as this past Saturday.

In terms of the boys, 2009 had an unusually strong group (11 sub-16 boys from just the SCVAL El Camino Division).

As for the girls, I'd say that the girls depth was better this year. In 2009, 13 teams ran under 100 minutes team time. 2011 had 12 teams while this year had 16.

  27. re 12:16 am post

While SI, did not qualify a team, they will be represented by individuals in both girls and boys: Brianna Bilter, a freshman, finished 7th by a lean over 8th place, earning the last DII individual spot, and sophomore Kevin Lehr was 4th in DII, 5th all divisions and 2nd over all sophomore.

  28. SI had one boy and one girl qualify as an individual for the CIF State meet.

  29. What happened to Lucas Matison from Paly in the D1 race?

    ReplyDelete
  30. He was injured riding his bike.

I think he would have had a very good chance of winning the Division I race.
