Mitty girls are losing many graduates, but are still very deep, so they should still contend for the win at CCS.
ReplyDeleteOutside of a few new comers and rebuilding years here and there it's the same schools every year. In girls it's all about new freshman as most girls fade or don't improve (tho in a few programs they do but that's the exception). Its easy to coach girls, its all talent. Boys it's all about development, culture and coaching. Much harder to win and coach the boys. Which is my guess as to the obsession with the girls here. Or you're just creepy.

ReplyDeleteSaint Francis Girls team will definitely be in the mix for a top 3 spot at CCS in Division 2. They could even win CCS. They are getting an extremely talented freshman girl, am I correct?
ReplyDeleteHow would they know, they aren't allowed to talk to any freshman at their school before August 19. How do you know that? But they usually get a few solid freshman every year.

ReplyDeleteJulia Bounds will be at St. Francis this fall as a freshmen and will be a contender to beat Jacobs for CCS Division II title. 10:10 3000 meters; 4:45 1500 and 2:17 800 meter and hasn't finished track season.

ReplyDeleteData for lack of girls improving. Yes. Go back through the annual comparisons. Outside of a few schools very few girls improve after their sophomore year. And how do u all know who is going where? Recruiting?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say the programs are the problems on Girls, Girls body structures are so Much more different than boys especially on the Muscular side. Next being a Coach who Coaches Both, athletes also only get out what they put into it, I've watched girls on My team and on also on others who don't improve and you ask them what did they didn't do and majority of them will say they didn't train in the off season or they were very sporadic about it. Girls for example spend more time on academics after there sophomore year, than boys. Next Soccer is really starting to Control XC and Track Runners especially on the Girls side, so No Time to Be consistent in Training. But this is Just My two Cents. A very Long Time Coach!
ReplyDeleteAs for data/proof, Allison Sturges of MV is a prime example. She was an excellent runner but her xc times were pretty consistent and she didn't improve much at all. Her avg paces starting from soph year in xc were 6:11, 6:11 and 6:10.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say That With Allison Sturgess, She Went through several Coaching Changes, so different styles of Coaching, Kevin would have Been Great for Her if he had stayed.
ReplyDeleteLos Altos is stacked with solid underclassmen. No way Carlmont can beat Bellarmine next year, and the Crystal Springs boys and girls will easily take the team title in both.

ReplyDeleteindividual race should be good between Jose Pina from Lincoln moving down to D3 and Steven Sum from Saratoga, both will be juniors. aptos has the team race down easily, I don't think they graduated any runners, and they were very close on SI, who has since moved down to D2 and graduated most of their runners.

They return with a host of young runners who are steadily improving + great coaching + good competition in WCAL=giving Aptos run for their money...of course, Aptos also has good coaching and tough comp in SCCAL!
Should be a great season!!!

Anonymous at 7:08. Steven Sum will run circles around Jose Piña. That kid over trains from what I hear. Runs with his team and then goes and does other workouts with his father. Poor kid had nothing left at CCS cross country this past year, and also at CCS trials.

ReplyDeleteSteven Sum is always the brides maid never the bride. My guess is the frosh (soon to be sophomore) from Aptos wins it, unless Sum can summon up the graduated ghost of Richard Ho from the CCS track finals.
What about individuals? I'm calling Scott Edwards as the gutsiest runner I've ever seen and looking to be the next biggest thing at this rate. Let's discuss.

ReplyDeleteHe's definitely the opposite of graceful. It's fun to watch him race because it looks like he's running on the edge. I'm not sure if it's true, but it looks like he's absolutely maxing his body out.
If he wants to be fantastic, he definitely needs to employ more strategy when he races. It seems most of the time, the race is being dictated to him and he has very little control over what's happening. His position in the pack fluctuates wildly.
At CCS he made his move way too early. Or too late depending on how you look at it. He started to kick at four hundred meters and he started to fade in the last hundred meters.
You're absolutely right about Edwards, except he died in the last 200, when Vasquez passed him, and other guys were closing in but then he pulled something out in the last 100 to stay away. You can just see him deteriorating in the race. I don't know anybody else that goes to a STATE meet, PRs in the trials only to come back the next day and PR again, and it wasnt just a little bit either. if we're looking at the individual title, who else is there?
ReplyDeleteIf we are using small sample sizes/anecdotal evidence, we can always pick girls who improved too... Jordan Hasay has improved consistently from a young age.
