4th place finishers at CCS, NCS and SJS meets

Now that NCS is down to 3 auto qualifiers to the state meet, I thought it would be interesting to compare the 4th place finisher from CCS, NCS and SJS (They all have 3 auto qualifiers now).  The 100/200 runners at the NCS meet had to run into a pretty stiff headwind which did slow them down a bit.  That same wind aided the horizontal jumpers.

  1. Do all three sections do back to back days of trials and finals?

  2. I know this is going to be brought up for NCS but as far as CCS the answer is no. We go Saturday semis and then finals the following Friday (yesterday). SJS does go Thursday/Friday for their semis/finals.

  5. Good question. 7 foot high jump in SJS? 50'4" triple jump in NCS? Maxwell's double in CCS? Vasquez's double in CCS (4:12.48/1:52.55)? Nia Dorner's double at SJS (54.05/24.36)? Wright's double in CCS (13.91/37.52)? Amador Valley 3:15.15 in boys' 1600m. relay? The NCS boys' 400m. race. Any others?

    Jalen Wright 13.91
    Jeffrey Prothro 50'4"
    Nia Dorner 54.05
    Anna Maxwell 4:42.57

plus Sasha Wallace of CV is CA leader in 100 hurdles and triple jump. Amador Valley missed 1600 relay state leading time by .03.

Miguel Vasquez's 4:12 with a 56 last lap, followed by a 1:52 was definitely one of the best performances out of CCS, by far. Probably the most impressive performance in NorCal. He's way too underrated. Wright winning both the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles was also pretty awesome.

  9. SJS: Faith Makau 1600/800 double and Madeline A's 10:28 in the 3200.

  10. A moment of silence for the NCS finisher who missed it by .02 seconds!

  11. previous years it was the dreaded 5th place finish...this year it was the dreaded 4th place finish that dashed so many state aspirations. Some races were very close while others narrowly missed the qualifying marks.

  12. Having the prelims and finals split into different weekends would probably not work in NCS because of the geography of the section. There were a number of us already leavi Thursday for the Fri/Sat meet, and so making overnight trips not just for the prelims/finals, but also the area qualifying meets the weekend before.

  13. Anonymous 1:21, I would Have to Say Maxwell Double in the 1600m,3200m. Robinson 1600m,3200m and Hiltz 1600m,800m Double are More impressive. Vasquez's Double in the 1600,800m.

  14. ^ Maybe. But girls sports do not have the depth of the boys. I'd say 4:42 is about equal to a 4:12. But 1:52 is far superior to the second races you mentioned that evening. Maybe not by performance lists but by physiological difficulty.

Boys Track & Field is so entirely more competitive that you just can't compare.

  15. I Would Say a 2:09 and a 10:22 for a 2nd race is pretty good and especially when the Athletes looked like they ran very strategically in there races.

You think a girls 4:42 is equivalent to a 4:12 for a boy?? Are you serious? More like a 4:02. Girls have way more depth then boys this year.
