If we're going simply by XC performances, it'd be Lawson>Estifanos>Hanson. Estifanos ran an incredible time at state, and lawson is a freakin all american (9th at footlocker). HOWEVER given that Tyler JUST ran 9:10 in the first month of the competitive season, both big dogs better watch their backs in the coming races. There might be a new king of the norcal distance hill.
At 6:37... GET REAL. State title? Hahahaha. Oh yeah, national title? He is totally on shape to beat Montoya, Cheserek, etc. do you even know who those guys are? Hanson is a good runner and a great competitor, but some people take it way too far on the overhyping of some kids.
Can someone please explain how the invitational works at Arcadia? Hanson is currently 3rd in California and 9th in the nation. He ran a 9:10 at Azusa beating his PR by 12 seconds. But he is not in the invitational!?
Not sure how many are in the invitational but think around 30 runners. How could it be that the 9th fastest is not in this??
Is it political? That would be very bad for the sport.
It's very simple - you don't run under 9:00 you don't get into the Arcadia Invite 3200. You have 29 runners in the Invite. There are more kids from Utah (5) than from California (3). CBA runners, Southlake Carroll runners, Wharton, Haney, Thompson, Leingang, Armstrong, Sarrell, Montoya! Where exactly would Hanson fit in this group. I predict 24 runners under 9:00! Hanson ran a great race at APU and is in a race in which 10 guys will break 9:00 - I hope he is one of them. I really can't see Rich Gonzalez sitting back with his political agenda against Tyler Hanson.
Thomas Joyce was in the invite two mile last year; going into the race I think he had run low 9-teens..So I don't think you need to run sub 9 to be in that race. Either way, both races will be very fast.

ReplyDeleteConsidering this is a national meet and the amount of sub 9s that have been run in the past, it's possible he didn't qualify for invite 2 mile.
