While I am working on that post, feel free to chime in on the contenders for each section in both the boys and girls divisions. The amount of state meet qualifiers are noted above. Who are the biggest favorites? Who are the most solid state meet contenders? What runners will make an impact at the state meet? Who are the freshmen contenders and in what races? What is the most competitive race distance in any section? Anything else? What else would you like to see?

800: Emma Hight 2:21 as 8th grader.
All had solid XC seasons

ReplyDeleteIf you want state meet contenders in SF and Oakland, I can do that as well. Only one runner qualifies for each race provided they run faster than a predetermined time.
ReplyDeleteAs for Clovis and the Central Section, I did pre-season individual rankings and interviewed Blake Haney. Since I started this blog in 2006, I have focused on the 6 sections that have been mostly acknowledged as "NorCal". If there is enough of an audience out there, I can expand my predictions for this coming track season for that section as well.

ReplyDeleteOakland will not have an 800-1600-3200 runner at State , male or female. The section champ must hit a standard to be able to run at state!
If my memory serves me, SJS Maggie Bell is a better - or as good as - 800 and 1500 runner than she is a 5k runner . . .
ReplyDeleteMost competitive race in any section has to be the 3200 in SS. You should see De La Rosa, Fernandez, Pratt, De La Torre, Reddish, Gonzales, Goins, Myles Smith, among others. All these guys either won the state XC title in their division or finished top 5. Under the right conditions, all have a chance run under the 9:09 standard and make the state meet, barring injury.

I think you can say that for all SS races.
ReplyDeleteCCS boys. 800- Cody Johnson best returner. Well rested cause he didn't run XC.
ReplyDelete1600. Baier won it last year on a slow day but many others have better credintials.
Yohaness can double of he wants. Vasquez(Hill)can out kick anyone. Has Run 4:20. And Garibay(YB) ran 4:21 at K-Bell and then got hurt. He's finally healthy. And then you have a number of other guys trailing those 3.
3200. Yohaness, Ho, Vasquez are the most talented and likely to go 1-3 to state. Followed by Meijer who now has tons of experience after breaking out on the CCS track scene last year. Have to count in The Sobrato kid Corvese who had the best breakout XC season of all time. Sum and Beyer from Aragon and Beyers teammate Pedro made a little comeback at CCS XC finals and state after not running track last year but ran 9:30 as a soph. He's my Wild card if healthy.
In the 1600. 1 of the most talented I forgot to mention was Ciaran Murphy from SI. He's what we call in sports 'streaky'. Will run 4:15 on 1 week and and run 4:26 the week after. Same in XC.
Don't forget berekat in the 3200..had a breakout xc season an rolled meijer all season and Vasquez for most of it
ReplyDeleteOh yeah. Bereket, and Vasquez will probably be right chasing Richard Ho. Bereket had more of a breakout season then Corvese. Only thing is it seems that Carlmont never has a track team. Especially in the distance events. None of those talented XC guys ever run. Will Bereket run?
ReplyDeleteAll Carlmont distance boys will be running. Tim Layten ran 1:55.38 for 800 and 4:01.27 for 1500 and 8:55 for 3000 last track season. Schulte, Vingralek and Dickson also ran under 9:50 for 2-miles last track season. Add in Dimick and Bereket who did run for Carlmont and they have 6 sub-10 guys to start the season.

ReplyDeleteSo all of those boys will be running for Carlmont and not RF United? Last year, Bereket and Dimick ran for Carlmont while the others ran for the club team. Also what about Matison?
ReplyDeleteI guess paying money to run 9:50-10:20 for two miles make any sense? There's nothing great going on at rf united.
