What is the toughest standard (boys or girls) to qualify for the state meet?

  1. Albert-

Forgive my ignorance, but what do At-Large Standards mean? Does that mean that if an athlete hits/breaks that time, they will automatically go to State?

  2. The at-large marks come into play if somebody doesn't finish in a state meet qualifying spot but surpasses the marks that I posted.

The qualifying spots for CCS are 3, NCS 4, SJS 3, OAK 1, SF 1 and NS 1. I am going off memory here as far as numbers so please correct me if I am wrong.

  3. Got it-so I'm assuming the at-large time has to be achieved AT the state qualifying meet-IE, a boy running 4:15 in the 1600 at NCS MOC finishes 5th, he's still on to State. He can't run that time at a league meet before MOC and automatically move on.

  4. Yup...you got it.

I'd be for hitting it at any invitational (no dual meets...to many reporting errors) like NCAA. It really stinks when it comes time to race and it is extremely hot or windy.

  5. At-large marks, as was pointed out above, have to be achieved at the section meet preceding the state meet.

Anybody want to chime in on the toughest mark?

  6. As a distance runner, I may be biased, but the 3200 and 800 seem pretty tough.

  7. Nothing on the girls, boys the 400 and 3200 look pretty tough.

  8. I agree-on the guy's side, that 400 number is a tough one. 3,200 as well. Especially at MOC after a few weeks of doubling/tripling at meets... The 1600 actually seems sort of slow, but that might just be due to the talent in the middle distance group we have coming up right now.

  9. Boys 400 and girls PV would be state champions in most states. The high jump requirements are pretty stiff too.

  10. how do they calculate the standards? Last year's state final 800 qualifier was absurd.

  11. I believe it's based on a three year average of the last qualifier to the state meet final in all events.

As with the 800m. last year, the at-large marks are effected by especially strong years.
