WOW Julie Nacouzi!!!! Highest finish in a while by a Norcal runner... since Sara Bei?
ReplyDeleteSara Bei won in 2000 but Amber Trotter won in 2001 (in an amazing 16:24!). Will dig deeper to see if any NorCal girl has had a top 3 finish since 2001.
ReplyDeletePretty crazy to think they are all from the same area in the NCS... with Nacouzi and Bei both going to the same high school! What the heck?!
ReplyDeleteCrowhurst has a good bit on the Redwood empire's history at FL Nationals.

North Bay League had three winners in eight years and some of the fastest times ever.
Still the best athletes are playing soccer in the fall. I wish NCS would go to winter soccer like everyone else.
DFAL league has soccer in the winter.
ReplyDeleteI believe the MCAL and BCL are the only two leagues in NCS that contest soccer in the fall (boys) and the spring (girls). As long as those two leagues stay in those two seasons for soccer, then they continue to vie for an NCS crown. Once either of those two leagues move to the winter, the other will follow since you can't contest a section championship with only one league taking part.
ReplyDeleteThey keep saying that a state soccer championship is on the way but that's been brought up for a while now.
Congrats to Nacouzi on her performance. I don't think that her high finish completely justifies her getting runner of the year or even first team. After her CIF season got cut short, she only had a couple races to train for. We saw today how far off some of Norcal's top girls have dropped off since state. Although she may very well be the top norcal runner, FL alone shouldnt decide that.
ReplyDeleteAny idea what colleges Julie is looking at?
ReplyDeleteThat Is the big question about Julie did not see any colleges talk to her today and there was quite a few there from around the country! She was quite a hand full to handle for the West Team to keep her close! My observation!
ReplyDeletesomething happen to Daniel Milechman @ 16:00 and ending up near the back? Injury or ????
ReplyDeleteFootlocker is a very tough race that goes out very fast and is the last race of the season for most runners. If you race there for the first time, there is a good chance that you might not run well.
ReplyDeleteThe ESPN Rise California articles said:
ReplyDeleteDaniel Milechman of El Camino (Sacramento) was 37th in 16:00. “It was a very tough race,” Milechman said, “and I did not feel great but it was a good experience and it was a good field. I was a bit too quick at the beginning.”
