Yes, take note that the course was different than in the past, due to construction. I ran in the coaches race, and found the new course to be one of the hardest, if not THE hardest, I've run in over 30 years of competitive running (albeit I have not run every course). Yes, I loved it! But times are definitely irrelevant here, compared to other courses of the same distance. At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! ;-)
Eric Chavez of St. Francis ran 12:04 in 99 just edging out Girmay Guangul of Santa Clara who ran 12:05. Those are the two fastest times on the course. Next is Mark McManus of St. Ignatius who ran 12:08 in '91 followed by Calvin Gaziano in '84 in 12:10.
Bishop O'Dowd was left out of the boys' scoring. They took 3rd place.

Btw, comparing the average varsity times from last year to this, they were 7.5% slower this year. About the same percentage for boys and girls.
