Hot off the presses! The long awaited NCS Division I pre-season rankings by Jason Oswalt are now here.
You can find his data and predications at the following link:
http://www.eteamz.com/csuxc/handouts/#1834325
Feel free to comment on the above predications. Any other teams deserve to be added? What runners are going to be the biggest surprises? Who are the impact freshmen? Who is the best coach in this division?
Thanks again to Jason for his work on these predictions.
Awesome!!! Thanks, Ozzie! Now, what about D2........
ReplyDeleteJason...I like the rankings but I think you underrated your girls. With 4 girls under 12 and the fifth at 12:10 your pack will be hard to beat!

For now, feel free to vote on the top 3 teams (boys and girls) in Division II. Pre-season rankings for this division will be posted next week.
ReplyDeleteThese seem pretty accurate.... on paper...
ReplyDeleteSan Ramon one and done, guess they were a one year wonder, not even ranked after such a good season.
ReplyDelete"San Ramon one and done, guess they were a one year wonder, not even ranked after such a good season."
ReplyDeleteSan Ramon isn't in Division 1, genius.
Divisions for this coming season are at this link:

SRV is indeed in Division II.
And these are far from accurate, whether it be on paper or on the screen.
ReplyDeleteThis is farcical at best, especially the girls rankings. See Mattern's comment. Come on, Oz.
Good job on the rankings, at this point you have to consider all the picks to be contenders for the title, it's June lots can happen.
ReplyDeleteD1 or D2 what's the difference? SRV pretty much graduated the entire team, not much talent left after graduaation.
ReplyDeleteThere is a big difference between Division I and Division II in NCS. De La Salle finished in 3rd place last year in Division I with the 4th fastest team in any division. With the addition of College Park, Division I will once again be one of the most competitive divisions and only two teams get to make the trip to Fresno.
ReplyDeleteIf SRV is indeed rebuilding this year, Division II will be a much easier go for them.
"SRV pretty much graduated the entire team, not much talent left after graduaation."
ReplyDeleteDidn't a sophomore from SRV finish 4th or 5th at NCS in XC last year?
De La Salle is the team to beat
ReplyDelete"Didn't a sophomore from SRV finish 4th or 5th at NCS in XC last year?"
ReplyDeleteYea parker was 5th and also ran
4:17/9:22 in track....
Ben eversole may have to be careful if he wants to be NCS d1 champ again
And, by the way, while DLS was 4th overall in team times, they were third overall in team scores.
ReplyDeleteSRV was hit hard by graduation, but seeing as they are now in D2 I wouldn't actually be shocked to see them win again, they got parker, plus a (incoming) sophmore under 10, and another under 2. For whats its worth there are also rumors they got one or two incoming freshman under 5, but of course its a long shot if those will be a factor.
And by the way, I don't know about las chicas but for the boys at least this is far from "farcical". I might shift around one or two teams but on the whole pretty good.
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteFarcical - pertaining to the nature of a farce.
Farce - A light dramatic work in which highly improbable plot situations, exaggerated characters, and often slapstick elements are used for humorous effect.
Read Oz's rankings again and I believe you will see:
1. A light dramatic work (see the intro and light-hearted nature of the text)
2. Improbable plot (as you admittedly noted the reversal of some of the rankings in the boys--since you couldn't be bothered with the girls)
3. Exaggerated characters (some sandbagging and promotion of others)
4. Slapstick elements used for humorous effect (see the AV boys write up)
Seems like it satisfies the definition of farcical.
Coach Pup
Yeah, I know what a farce is. Sure it may have elements of a farce, as you pointed out, but I do not think those details characterize the whole rankings. The text parts get pretty silly, but its the numbers that are the important part. Calling it farcical implies that the rankings listed are utterly worthless and ridiculous, which does not apply here. I am not saying I agree with these rankings in their entirety, especially when it comes to some of the more minor details about individual teams, but I do not think it is fair to just completely dismiss them as absurd. I think they give a pretty good picture of the status quo of NCS DI.......on paper.
ReplyDeleteAll those low 12's from College Park's JV/FS team weren't that good because those times were run at the Ed Sias course and those times would be okay fs/jv times but aren't really of varsity caliber.
ReplyDeletewhat about foothill girls? their team looks to be powerful with so many seniors and a few underclassmen rising.
