The reason for the change in the JV races from 3K to 5K was that the the fields were large and with the distance at only 3K, the finish line was as you would expect in a race that short...VERY CROWDED.
The 5K distance should spread the fields out and give JV runners a chance to compare their times to the varsity runners.
I did see the change in the schedule with the college races in between the HS races. I think that is a good change in that it will allow more HS runners to watch the college races.
This is definitely not the same course. The Stanford Invitational course has changed many times over the years but this is probably the biggest change they have made.
this course sucks. personal opinion. It's to repeaty. and what's with the D turn?!? "ok now stop, turn around and go" we are not swimmers. we don't touch a wall and come back rabble rabble rabble.
I agree about the HS runners being able to see the college races. Very cool. I did have another thought....Parking is going to be a bear! Previously you had people moving out mid morning leaving room for later races including college. Now you will have more people there for the entire event. Particularly with the college races so much earlier. Shawn
There were some impressive preformances today at the nike invite. The top 4 individual finshers at that race looked very impressive, as well as the top 3 teams. It was a great battle between Campo, Amador Valley, Jesuit.
Course more spectator friendly. Past course you would lose runners at 2k. Then not see them until they approached the final fairway. This course lets you locate fairly central and see all the action.
Other than the slopes of the golf course, the course will be VERY flat, but I'm not sure it will be so different than before. It wasn't like the hill was that big.
Why take out the hill? That was the best part of the course. Now it's just laps around the same place. We don't even get to run everywhere on the flat part that we used to. Definitely not an improvement.
Did you notice that the schedule has changed this year? The college races happen in the middle of the High School Races!
ReplyDeleteAlso all HS races are 5K. No more short JV race.

is the course the same as it was last year for varsity? i know they have changed it around the last couple of years...

ReplyDeleteDo you think that it will faster or slower this year compared to last year?
ReplyDeleteThey took the only major hill on the course from previous years so it has to be faster. The course looks to be flat as a pancake.
ReplyDeletehow much faster should we expect it to be? any guess?
