Maxwell runs Stanford, huge Lead on wet Stanford Course while O'Keefe has a dry and warmer Course. Mt Sac, Maxwell runs away with Win in Warm and Humid Conditions and O'Keefe runs in perfect Conditions the Next Morning. State, O'Keefe gets to run in earlier races with runners in close range and Maxwell runs Later without being pushed and the conditions gets worse as the the Day goes by with dust being created by the Cart on the Cours, especially the last few races of the Day. O'keefe runs well at NXN in 17:31 and Looking at the Course Record, Maxwell actually Held that from the Previous year in 17:37 at Nike Pre-Nationals. NXN Had the Stars but Footlocker had the Depth. Good Luck! Thus it is no surprise that Maxwell is ahead in the poll. That said, I do not see how one can argue that Maxwell had the better season. Of the common courses O'Keeffe and Maxwell ran, O'Keeffe was faster on 2 of 3, with both coming in the latter part of the season. O'Keeffe also ran in the more competitive (at least at the top end) national event and turned in an outstanding effort.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31292861.post-14626259361028056192013-12-21T07:12:40.289-08:002013-12-21T07:12:40.289-08:00Albert - your not suggesting course tampering? at ...Albert - your not suggesting course tampering? at least on my computer you vote once and then it does not allow you to vote again. Could it not be that a runner who has made a arguably significant impact over the last four years in both Cross Country and Track may have at least a few fans! Those who have watched the SCCAL/CCS Trio duke it out may not have known anything about the sport until those three earned their respect.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31292861.post-19710172894420119792013-12-21T06:05:25.920-08:002013-12-21T06:05:25.920-08:00Albert (10:52PM),
I'm assuming that everyone ...Albert (10:52PM),
I'm assuming that everyone gets just one vote (I know that I only voted once).
If that's the case, it appears that the late surge by Maxwell is either a coincident or an effort by some to rally friends in her support. O'Keefe took an early lead, so I suppose you could say that her fans got behind her early.
If Maxwell's and O'Keefe's seasons are as evenly matched as they seem.(LetsRun having Maxwell slightly ahead and dyestat having them dead even) and you want just one NorCal runner of the year then you need additional criteria.
I would argue the following:
1- The adversity Maxwell overcame. Almost last to first at the State meet. (2012-2013)
2- Maxwell is a Senior. If O'Keefe is the real deal, which I believe she is, she has two more shots at NorCal runner of the year. She may eventually be a two time winner.
