Some of you may have heard about this already, but NCS is voting on a proposed change to the Meet of Champions to a different format than the current 2-day format that has been in place for many years. You can check out the proposal at this LINK on page 23. The NCS Board of Managers will meet next week, and if passed, the measure will be implemented immediately. The proposal is to have the 4 x 800s and unified races on Friday and then the running events on Saturday in two timed final heats for each event. Thoughts about this proposed change?
Big impact on 4x800 if that proposed race order holds. With only 4x100 in between 4x800 and 1600, you are going to lose some top runners from 4x800 and may be sending less competitive 4x800 team to States. Seems like they should put Unified events after 4x800 so a runner could do both 4x800 and 1600
ReplyDeleteThe order of 4x800 with only one event in between that and the 1600 is problematic and would likely result in less competitive 4x800 teams from NCS going to States. Seems like they should put Unified events in between to give a time gap so a mid distance runner can do both.
ReplyDeletePretty much every runner in other sections has to make those choices. There are positives and negatives with this proposal, and that is definitely a repercussion from the proposed change.
ReplyDeleteSouthern Section and likely others use same order as States with 4x800 near the end of the meet with Unified/Para events in between. NCS order in proposal is more problematic imo.

ReplyDeleteThe proposal lists the 4x800 Relay as being contested on Friday along with all Unified events and an exhibition 4x200 relay. it lists all other running events on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteI read it as a one day event starting with events that used to be on Friday which puts the 4x800 iup front before the 1600
