The CCS rankings as voted on by CCS coaches can be found here:

You can also check out CCS rankings at http://ca.milesplit.com/. The 3 mile rankings are a bit skewed due to our 1st league meet at San Bruno Mountain marked as a 3 mile course (actually 2.8 miles). The 5k rankings are pretty solid and a good reflection of the top teams in CCS.
I will have a Crystal Springs Serra Invite preview posted on Friday.

Just looking for general opinion, how do people feel about a team pulling a Wisconsin and jogging their league meets? Theres a few top teams and I don't want to name names but they show up because they have to and have their top runners jog in the back and not even try. Why even run the race?
ReplyDeleteThat is a league issue. When regular season league meets don't count in the standings, you will have some teams that will choose not to compete to their full potential.
ReplyDeleteYou have no such issues in leagues like WCAL, DFAL, WBAL who count their regular season meets as part of determining their league champions.
Some teams auto qualify to CCS by just running their league meet.
ReplyDeleteEvery team in CCS should either have to hit the qualifying time or open it up so more teams can make it. Maybe Top 2 in each league per division then you either hit the time or your don't. You should also be able to hit the time on the course throughout the season. What if it is 100 degrees or real muddy at leagues and you are in a tough league? The system works but it could be better.
ReplyDeleteAs for the teams that just jog a league meet don't even put your 18 min girls and 15 min boys in there is all you are going to do is jog 8 min pace. They miss school for that? They would be better off staying home and doing a workout and let the other kids go all out.
I have made a proposal through our league about being able to qualify for CCS at any point in the season. You are absolutely right in that some leagues can be adversely affected at their league final if they have very hot conditions. Swimmers can qualify to their section meets at any point in the season so why not cross country?
ReplyDeleteSometimes you have to jog a league meet if you are coming off or going to a big invitational. Coaches set up their schedules to peak at CCS and state and not all league meets fit that schedule. You can never fault a coach for doing what they think is best for their team.
ReplyDeleteNo fault of anyone's. I was just pointing out that there are leagues that have only one team in a division, and get an auto qualifier for that division. No competition before CCS even matters. Some teams are forced to compete in 4 or 5 league meets.
ReplyDeleteGreat match up this weekend at Crystal between Aptos and Santa Cruz. This should be a preview for league champs
ReplyDeleteNo it won't. Invites are closer to the state meet, not league meets or even CCS that have fewer competitors. The big meets help teams with depth the league meets favor those with the top front runners.
ReplyDeleteIf it doesn't matter than why race them at all? Why take kids out of class to plod along slower than a training run?
ReplyDeleteIf it's a League meet then individuals have to run in 50% of their League Meets in order to be eligible for CCS (CCS bylaw).
