Northern Section Rankings will be up next...

Will post this weekend.

Also stay tuned for 2 coaching interviews.  If you have any coaches and/or athletes that you would like to see interviewed, please feel free to name those candidates below.  I can't guarantee that I will get the interviews but I will definitely ask.

  5. The coach for the Buffalo Babes. He has a good pulse on both HS and JR High female runners in Nor Cal.

  7. I'd like to hear from all the WCAL coaches. Maybe some from Salinas and Monterey area too.

  8. How about both Coach Bob King and Jordan Rushing of Del Campo ? Hall of Fame Coach and the top SJS runner at the same time ? Sounds like a winner.

  10. How about the northern CCS schools too like Aragon and HMB

  11. Good idea. An interview with Bill Daskarolis (assuming he's still at Aragon) would be great.

  12. You should interview Katie Nast, former Saratoga HS runner now at UC Davis. She had a very impressive performance at Wharf to Wharf (finished right near the top, and considering runners like Magdalena Lewy Boulet and the Kenyans were at the top, that tells you how good she was) and I think her pace for the 6 mile race was pretty close to her HS 2 mile pace.

Great to see Norcal runners improve tremendously and keep competing at the next level.

  13. "I think her pace for the 6 mile race was pretty close to her HS 2 mile pace. "

Not quite. Her pace at Wharf to Wharf was 6:26 per mile. Her HS 3200 PR was 11:26, or a 5:45 per mile (slight adjustment since a 3200 is shorter than 2 miles).

  14. Albert... how about a list of cool team websites for us to go check out. I know the campolindo site but any other really good team sites out there?

  15. Another suggestion, how about some coverage from your bay area camp too?

  16. Albert I think you should interview Kevin McCarthy who coaches the Pleasanton Heat. He is an age group coach for USATF and the common denominator for Parker Duel, Tyler Sorenson, Sophie Hartley, Aidan Goltra, Gabe Arias, Blair Hurlock, Nolan Peterson, Connor McCarthy, Nicole Hood and I'm sure lots of other great HS runners in the area. Most of these kids started their running career with Coach Kevin before high school. He is a well loved coach by all of his runners.

Oh you're right, for some reason, she was listed as in ~6th place with a time under 35 minutes a few days ago, looks like they have changed/corrected that. When I saw that initial result I was very impressed (it initially said she was running at 5:42 pace), especially because she beat runners like Tori Tyler.

  18. Thanks for all the great ideas so far. Keep them coming.

  19. I'd an interview with Coach Kevin. He runs a great program and maintain an amazing rapor with this athlete's even after the leave the Heat to run in high school.

  20. The comments about Coach Kevin got me wondering - are there times when a runner's relationship with a Club take precedent over the High School team and Coach? On the surface it seems like there could be a natural conflcit if not carefully managed by the athlete, coaches and parents.

  21. Too many cooks in the kitchen. You should only have one coach in the season, otherwise it does nothing but tear an athlete in mutliple directions. Unfortunately many coaches on the hs and club level never talk to each other.

  22. Oh Lord... PLEASE not another club vs. HS coach debate. There are situations where it works, and situations where it fails. It depends on the parties involved, the level of communication, and ultimately the athlete. In my opinion, a coach has to secure the high-performing athlete's buy-in. Sometimes it's a club coach, others its the school coach. Either way, a USATF certificate does not mean someone is a good coach-but neither does a whistle, stopwatch, and a stipend.

  23. Yup... well said!

As for what we'd like to see how about some race articles / coverage this year. You have many coaches who contribute to the site from many different nor cal sections. Any chance you might convince them to do some full race reports for some of the big meets they go to? Maybe some quotes, videos, pics, etc.

You do that though albert and you might want to upgrade from a blog to a website...you'll quickly be dyestats northern rival!

  25. Trackstar? Alright I'll take the bait. What races has he won to qualify him as a "star". I don't mean to knock anyone, but really, the bar I have for a "Track Star" was set by heavy hitters like Ammar Moussa, Elias Gedyon or Erik Olson. Is Trackstar in that league?
