Some hand a schedule, others are more regimented. I think it is important for all coaches to encourage their athletes to play a winter sport, one great example being Bret Gotcher who played basketball until his Senior year, just to name one of many (kids he just finished 5th in the trials ran at Stanford and was on of the top distance runners in HS). But what about those not in a sport? Well it gets tricky doesn't it. You want to build your program and do what's right as a coach and for the athlete.

But then you have coaches who tell their athletes to not do another sport (maybe not so much in running where top 7 is very clear) but athletes who do another sport are degraded and told they are not dedicated. So we have rules.

So what's ok? Handing a training plan? Being there as a supervisor for safety? What about a school fitness running club?

Rules are very gray. I think there are those that push the limits. But those grays are ruled on by the section office. If there's a problem talk to the coach, league rep, section office.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31292861.post-16480132073632820012014-01-13T21:31:20.916-08:002014-01-13T21:31:20.916-08:00With the spring track season just a few short week...With the spring track season just a few short weeks away, vital winter training sessions continue, and athletes not currently participating in a winter sport are expected to attend these critical workouts after school daily.
