If (and a big if) it passes would not go into effect until 2021. Any school opening before that opens itself up to costly litigation, something feared by school districts. Count on distance learning through the end of 2020 and mostly hybrid for the second semester. Would schools really hold practice if in distance learning? In a hybrid model? Will districts take on liability for sports? We are currently working on a plan to keep it open and in use for many years to come. Whether we get the OK to use the course or any other park for meets in 2021 is the million-dollar question that nobody can answer at this point. Just because a season starts doesn’t mean competition starts immediately. <br />3. This is assuming sports really do start in December/ January. My guess is most schools won’t be participating in sports if they are in distance learning or hybrid. This could be the easiest path to State as maybe 1/3 of schools maybe, might have a shot at competing.<br /><br />CIF makes no decisions for school districts. Your county must approve schools to open, sports, & large gatherings. Then the school board has to approve (they don’t like risks & potential lawsuits. Then the union need to approve. The County & City parks must allow the venue to be used. While it’s nice to have hope I wouldn’t bet on a fall season. The biggest hope is for the spring as that’s football, basketball & baseball all in there with track. <br /><br />My prediction: fall is canceled, maybe a spring. I can understand not holding it in the Fall with the likelihood of superspreaders, etc, but by Spring its gives them some time for a vaccine, or more accurate detection methods. <br /><br />They condensed 3 seasons to 2, and while there is overlap, it looks like there are enough weeks to have a full season for XC and track. The biggest restriction is you need to be a child of an essential employee. It is also stated that camps do not include youth sports and can not be used to circumvent the rules. I’ve known multiple schools that have had to shut down training lately after being told they could. It’s sad.
