Hanson paced off Goltra until the final hill with less than a half mile left, then took off to win by 14 seconds. Hanson also ended up setting a new course record by 9 seconds. This was his first time at all the invitationals, except Ed Sias. 15:29 at the Hayward course and 15:39 at Mt. Sac (there was an error in the timing in the D3 race, but if you watch the video posted on youtube, you will see/hear the actual time) is noteworthy. He's running against guys that have been running for several years. Like I said earlier, she's been dealing with injuries but is healthy now. She hasn't had much competition in any one of them - the closest being her sister (at 2 of the meets) and Nicole Anthony of Castro Valley (at Hayward). This lack of competition may hurt her come NCS, but hopefully she gets some at the WACC Finals to prep for NCS. <br /><br />But anonymous at 10:06 PM is right with the facts. And I know D1 girls is going to very fast and powerpacked with these names and plenty others in that front pack. Anything's possible with a pack that big and fast. Pianin is definitely #1, but consider:<br /><br />- Abdo hasn't raced more than twice (I think) and while good runs neither were crazy fast.<br /><br />- Bayliss won Stanford and ran faster than Starn and White at Mt Sac.<br /><br />- Starn ran faster than White at Stanford and Mt. Sac. Starn and McCandless were in front of Bayliss at the EBAL Center meet.<br /><br />- White ran 24 seconds faster than Abdo on the Canyon Middle School Course.<br /><br />- McCandless isn't even Granada's best runner. Maryann Gong is. Gong has run faster 4 out of 5 times they've run the same race.<br /><br />So what does it all mean?
