RIP to former Hillsdale and Menlo Atherton coach, Plato Yanicks

Longtime Hillsdale and Menlo Atherton coach Plato Yanicks passed away last night. He was inducted into the San Mateo County Hall of Fame in 2004 and you can check out some of his accolades at the following link. I also know that he was one of the coaches responsible for the California State XC meet that finally came to fruition in 1987. I was able to chat with him at the CCS XC meet this past fall as he came around to check out the section competition one last time. I will update any funeral or memorial information once I hear more.

From MA Principal Karl Losekoot

Greetings M-A,

I regret to announce that Plato Yanicks, one of M-A's legendary teachers and coaches, has passed away.   Plato was 89.  Plato was a PE teacher at M-A and also our Cross Country and Track and Field Coach from 1965 to 1994.   For the past several years, Plato has been working with a small group of M-A staff members and alumni as a member of our Athletic Hall of Fame committee.  Many of our staff knew Plato and still are in communication with his family.  He will be missed!

Here is a comprehensive write up of his athletic accomplishments, which was put together when he was inducted into M-A's Athletic Hall of Fame:
