Pre-Season NorCal Cross Country individual rankings

Here is my attempt to rank the individuals for the potential Cross Country season. To rank the following runners, I looked at the 2019 state results to find the top returners, looked at the top track and field marks, and also used the MileSplit Compare Athletes page which you can check out at this LINK. Would add Lester to the list. His 16:04 was by far his worst race of last year at state. HE beat Houston for most of the season & his 15:23 at Hayward was very good. After his break out Track season this could be a very good cross country year for him.

Didnt Patrick Curulla beat Galen Topper at every race??

I would add Ajani Salcido (Jesuit) to your list. Had to run JV XC at Jesuit due to transfer rules. Ran 16:20 solo at Willow Hills course at the Section meet. Ran 4:11 mile in Eugene on July 4th.

I will add a watch list as well. Keep the names coming.

I agree with @6:53 AM on Salcido. Here are the results of Jesuit annual time trial with Salcido and M. Chambers winning by quite a wide margin over their teammates.

Although I am quite biased, Kellen will be in the mix for cross. When track got shut down, his coach and him chose not to do any time trials and went straight to cross training in March. He looks very strong right now and is very motivated for cross, whenever that might be.

Ok, I added runners to the bubble list. They were on my original list and definitely deserve to be mentioned. What girls should be added to the 10 I already posted?

What made you choose Galen Topper over Patrick Curula? As another commenter mentioned, Patrick won all 5 head to head competitions this past cross country season

I agree regarding Kellen. His sweet spot is probably the 800 or the mile but he can do it all as he proved when he debuted with a 9:3X at the DDF. Plus, I have it on good authority that he is putting in the miles.

I would also put Alex Lodewick on the list. He is only going to be a sophomore but he broke `5:50 at State last year.

Ellie Buckley finished 11th at State in the D3 division as a fresh and has a great summer of training. I think be the mix.

Two Lick Wilmerding runners deserve consideration. Alex Mader a rising junior who ran 15:49 at State despite missing much of the season with an injury, and he has posted a faster 3200 m time than several others on the list. Maya Lacamp a rising senior, ran a 2:16 800 m as a sophomore, with no chance to improve this spring, and she went sub 19:00 at last year's state meet, again after a season where she missed time with injury. Maya has been posting truly outstanding work-out times all spring and summer. I also think the Lick girls will be a top 10 team. Two of their top runners graduated, but they return 5 girls who ran under 20:00 at the state meet, and this group, with several additions, are running really fast this summer.

Clem Welsh from Bellarmine? He beat Galen Topper several times through the 2019 XC season but blew up at CIF State.

A 4:11 and a 4:07 miler don't make the top ten....?
