How to slow down Matt Strangio

Come on people...don't interfere with the runners during the races.

I find that level of ignorance infuriating. When I first heard about a spectator interfering with the runner, I assumed it was a random person unaffiliated with cross-country who cluelessly took a stroll where they should not have. According to one of the comments on another post, this "spectator" was a coach of another team who was in the midst of showing his female athletes the course. That boggles my mind.

Yes, mistakes happen, but some mistakes -- like this -- are TRULY UNBELIEVABLE.

Yeah, no excuses if it was a coach.

If it had happened the first time around the finger loop, it might of impacted Strangio's overall race even more. But since it happened on the second time around the finger loop (about 250 yards from finish) he was probably around 5 secs slower.

There is no way he would of lost 22 secs on that, and matched the course record. He pushed it up that hill and down the final straight away.

I just watched the video of the SJS JV Boys race and the leader of that race almost ran in to a spectator on the course (at about the 5:00 minute mark of the video). I've been attending the SJS Championship meet for the last 8 years and the volunteers generally do a good job. Wondering if this is a growing issue at other meets?
