CIF State Track and Field meet reflections

That was some meet last night at Buchanan HS. When I get a moment, I will add all the highlights from the meet which included some spectacular performances by many Northern California athletes.

You can find results of the trials and finals at this link:

For now, please feel free to comment in the section below on your personal favorite moments from the meet. Who was most impressive? What was the best competition of the meet? What was the biggest surprise? Who were the underclassmen who shined yesterday and are on the brink of superstardom? Anything else you want to add, go for it.

Meet was too long. Too much dead time between events. No way a finals only meet should 4.5 hours. Finish by 9:30...

I cover the Sac Joaquin Section, so most of my expertise is there, but some seriously amazing performances from so many Northern California athletes. Strangio winning the 1,600 over a murderer's row of talent and then coming back for gutsy sub-9:00 3rd place in the 3,200 was pretty amazing (Peattie and Middleton-Pearson both had awesome runs in that race). Jamar Marshall's 110 HH was a near perfect race. After last year's disappointment, Zachary Larrier comes home with 3 medals after anchoring Monterey Trail's winning 4x1, winning the open 400 and anchoring their 6th place 4x4. Ryan Mulholland was tied for second in the 100 and will be back next year. Samuel Wright won the Pole Vault and will be off to Harvard in the Fall. Chase Gordon finished .03 behind the winner in the 800 and will be the top returner next year.

Girls: Isabella Fauria of St. Francis finishing 4th in the 800. Del Oro freshman Riley Chamberlain finishing 4th in the 3,200 after only a month of training (long lay off due to injury), Samantha Wallenstrom winning the 800 was a very popular win after her incredible show of sportsmanship during her section masters meet (the top 4 were all Northern California runners) . Ceonna Pippion of Vista Del Lago finishing 3rd in the 400.

Those are just a few of the performances I recall, my apologies if I missed anybody.
