NBL (NCS) meet has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled

https://redwoodempirerunning.com/nbl-finals-cancelled-ncs-entries/

I believe all NCS league championship meets have all been contested now. Final NCS rankings before the meet this Saturday (hopefully) will be posted in the next couple of days. Feel free to post your predictions for the NCS meet in the comment section below.

Hi There any word if the NCS championship will still happen this saturday if the air quality is still bad

With the CIF keeping the state meet on 11/24, does that mean all section finals will have to be run by 11/17, even if the air is not better? Second question: if CCS and other impacted sections are still playing football games, what is their justification for canceling XC events? Final one: what if the section meets don't happen, will the best teams and individuals be advanced to state and who gets to decide?

If the air quality is still bad on Saturday, I don't think they will be able to hold the event.

I think if some section meets can't take place this Saturday, then the section finals may have to be held the following Monday or Tuesday. If that is the case, I believe they will hold the state meet on the 24th. Any further delays and they might have to delay the state meet?

If there is no SJS section meet and they send the top teams from Subs to State, it will expose the sub meet sham and total money grab. Most top teams just cruise the sub meet to qualify for sections, and lower level teams go all out hoping to make it. All you need to do is be in the top 10 teams to move on to sections so why kill it at a meet that is used as a SJS fundraiser.

In doing so many top programs would be eliminated and the slower teams who needed to go all out at subs would move on to state and then get destroyed. SJS would lose future state berths if they allow this to happen. The SJS subsection meet is put on so they can charge twice for what should be one meet. I cannot wait to see what the SJS decides, they know everyone is waiting to pounce on the wrong decision, which I am sure they will make.

Running a section final after 11/17 puts that section at a great disadvantage at state. Anything less than a full week of rest is hard to justify for teams trying to win a state title. I could see putting the best 2 teams through automatically and then having the rest of the teams run off for the last slot to advance to state. That way the viable teams are not disadvantaged and the teams on the bubble get to fight it out.

NCS members can't hold outdoor events when AQI is > 150

1003H Air Quality Index
An air quality index of less than 151 must be registered for all high school outdoor athletic events hosted by NCS member
schools during preseason, league and section championship events. NCS member schools may not host outdoor contests
when the AQI is equal to or gre

@1:56... never going to happen. No way can you push through the “top 2 teams” and make everyone else compete. Come on.

Also pretty much every section cares more about that meet than state. And what not cal teams can win a title anyways? I can’t think of one.

@1:52 ... If there is no SJS section meet, it makes the sub-section meet have a new purpose than just qualifying into the section meet. Elite teams that just cruise through every year may find themselves out of the state meet if some unforeseen disaster happens that cancels section, which may happen. Running hard enough to get into the top 2 or 3 teams or top 5 individuals would now be a necessary consideration at subs.

Disagree with you about slower teams knocking off faster teams, at least based on this year. I get what you are saying, but looking at the results at subs, the better teams (in my opinion) finished at or near the top anyways. In D1 boys, it was Jesuit and Davis. Who else is better? In D1 girls, it was Davis, Oak Ridge and Cosumnes Oaks. Who is better? Perhaps Gregori, but their top 2 would get in as individuals, and if they are better than the other 3, well, lesson learned, albeit the hard way - don't cruise through a meet.

The other divisions would seem to have the top guns get through, at least those who really have a chance to place high at state to help keep our SJS berths, which are based on multiple years of results, not just one - St Francis in D2 Girls, Vista in D3 Girls, Placer in D4 Boys. All of those teams won at subs, and I really do not see a power house (likely a top 10 finisher at state) not in a qualifying spot from the subs.

If I am missing some strong team who cruised and finished 4th or 5th at subs, I do feel badly for them. Let's just hope that section is run and the best teams can be sent to state to represent us.

News from SJS is that Varsity only races, if any can be run at all, will be run on Saturday. Thing is races will be combined, so D1 and D2 run together, D3, D4, and D5 run together. The dynamic of this is interesting. Varsity races that normally run at 70 participants now become 140 or even 210 participants roughly. I always thought the reason the sub section meet is run a Frogtown is to cut down teams because the Folsom course is too small to handle large fields. Now this is OK? Best plan on a quick start . . .

@1:23 - a 2 minute delay for D4 and D5 should help with the crowd. I would like to see a 2 minute delay for all divisions.

What about NCS alternative plans? Haven't heard anything even rumors about what would be done if air quality is bad on Saturday. Isn't it good to have a back up plan?

Albert Caruana said...

There is a plan in place for NCS as well. For now, you have to go on the assumption that the meet will take place Saturday at Hayward HS.

Ooooh, sounds mysterious...

so what is the plan for NCS if the meet is not held on Saturday,

Greg Fogg said...

Hi Albert, any idea as to a timeframe for when a go/no-go NCS decision will be made? (i.e. by Noon tomorrow)

Greg -- see 6:03 PM note - it seems we will know when we know. Of course we all know what assuming does....

I know CCS is going to make a decision on Friday in regards to the date and location of the meet. I believe NCS will more than likely make a similar decision on Friday. If the meet can't be held on Saturday then the next logical date would be the following Monday or Tuesday.

For NCS, I would think that they will make a decision today...since a number of schools from the north have hotels they have booked for tomorrow. As for Monday or Tuesday, this will definitely impact on some of entries....I know of several teams with kids on vacation for thanksgiving holiday who might miss NCS...

Too bad they can't postpone a week and move State back a week...not likely tho.

Are we going to get an NCS preview still?
