TCAL Meet #3 JV times are too quick... distance must have been shorter than the listed 5k.

WCAL http://www.rtspt.com/events/cif/2018Meets/wcal3/ Close win for the Presentation girls, though I heard that St Francis was missing 2 of its top 5.

Well if you mean injured, than yes. But you can go down any team and look at people who should be top 5 but aren’t running for one reason or another. Please don’t take away from what Presentation accomplished.

Barton is the only runner from St. Francis missing from WCAL III that ran WCAL I and WCAL II but clearly her absence hurt their team finish. Great showing by St Ignatius finishing 2 points from first and losing a tiebreaker to St Francis that would have knocked St Francis out of a tie for a league championship with Presentation.

Barton and Cairns were missing for St. Francis.

Anonymous said...

Cairns is injured. Was any team full strength yesterday? Again, Presentation ran awesome, don’t take away from that.

Good to see Henry Saul back. It looks like Owen Mackenzie is out for the season. Also, Crystal times are universally slow this year. What is the reason for that?

Anonymous said...

What happened to Colonna? He ran a lot slower than his 15:02 last year.

Albert Caruana said...

Not sure if it was the weather or they were tactical races this year? The course is pretty much the same from year to year.

Colton is sick. Joe

It was 80+ degrees an WCAL runs their varsity in the hottest time of the day at 3 pm.

Anonymous said...

It's weather. It has been warm and sunny this week at Crystal and there's no shade from the sun on that course.

Anonymous said...

WCAL Varsity start times were 4:05 and 4:30 after all other divisions started

pmccrystle said...

For the WCAL, the air was hot and heavy and the course was very dusty. Efforts by all runners were excellent, so the slower times reflected the heat (80+ degrees when the Varsity boys race went off) and slow conditions more than tactics or effort...imo

Colonna, Eng, Garcia and Peattie were shoulder to shoulder at the two mile--they ran 5:02/5:08--and then Peattie pulled away and forst Colonna, then Garcia and lastly Eng dropped off. Not knowing WBAL results, and before the PAL tomorrow, only 16 runners have broken 16 (8 BVAL, 2 SCVAL, 8 WCAL); last year, there were 18 in those three leagues, and 23 in 2016.

The weather was not much better today at PAL champs. I hope crystal will cool down by next weekend and maybe we will see some faster times.

I think EBAL was 85 when the varsity boys went off. Heat was definitely more so a factor than it usually would be in November and probably pushed some of these races to be a little more tactical than they otherwise would have been.

WACC Champs

Why doesn’t the PAL, which runs on a Saturday, run in the morning? BVAL misses a whole day of school and runs in the morning. You race on a Saturday!

Anonymous said...

Because there was an SAT this saturday

Anonymous said...

CCS Trials for Track was on an SAT day and Prom. You just take the SAT on another day.

Albert Caruana said...

That is correct but if you place a league final up against an SAT, you will end up with a lot of missing athletes for your league.

Anonymous said...

Doing anything related to school (SAT, tests, homework, prom....) over running is insane!

Albert Caruana said...

Not everybody has the same passion for running. That is made pretty clear during the summer.

Livingston from DLS, DNS at EBAL? Injured? One of Nor Cals best.
What a strong league, Amador this years sweepstakes winners at Mt.Sac only third and they are loaded. Awesome league meet on a hot November day.

Albert Caruana said...

Not sure what happened to Livingston but he has two weeks to race at the NCS meet.

I think from top to bottom, the best league in Northern California has to be the EBAL. Are any other leagues close?

Anonymous said...

I think Newberry Park and Thousand Oaks are in the same league down south.

Albert Caruana said...

I was asking about NorCal leagues. What is the toughest league in SJS? Delta? What about CCS? Is it WCAL? SCVAL? I don't think there is any question that the EBAL is toughest in NCS. As far as Division V teams, the BCL is super tough and would put that up against any Division V league in the state. Any others?

What if this is a seniors last SAT or if this is necessary for someone who cant take it another day? Education will get you into a college that you could run at but not the other way around. One must be so close minded and ignorant to argue that a sport is more important than education.

Anonymous said...

In SJS for boys it's the Sierra Foothill League (SFL) with Whitney, Rocklin & Del Oro. I think Folsom is only non-competitive team. Jesuit is a dominant team but big separation between them and rest of Delta (sorry Davis)

On girls side, Delta is deepest league with St Francis, Consumnes, Davis, etc. Vista is also a good team but CAL is not deep league.

pmccrystle said...

I think that the SCCAL is the top CCS league. Despite small schools, great coaches from top to bottom consistently turn out top individuals and very competitive teams. They might be a bit down on the team side this year, especially for the girls, but Scotts Valley is one of the top boys teams in the CCS. And I think this is true for XC and distance track.

Anonymous said...

Albert, per your question about top leagues. Would be cool to see a Norcal All Star League competition (top 7 from league finals). But with State, NXN, and FL it's a lot to ask.

Albert Caruana said...

Before there was a state meet (1987), there used to be a NorCal meet.

Anonymous said...

All Star teams to decide "best league"?

Anonymous said...

That's very diplomatic Patrick but the SCCAL isn't close to the WCAL for boys and not just this year. SCCAL is best on the girls side though.

Anonymous said...

If you’re talking Track & Field WCAL is by far the top league. If you’re talking XC they are not the top. Maybe a year here or there but not constantly.

Ron Ernst said...

I agree with Anonymous from 3:18pm - Patrick, there is no league in CCS like WCAL, for the time being, but thanks for being modest. With the strength of SF and the youth of the Bells I would expect that the toughest team or individual race to win in CCS will continue to be WCAL.
