Episode 28: Nikki Hiltz, All-American NCAA Collegiate Runner

For those of you that enjoy listening to podcasts, here is a recent one featuring former Aptos HS runner Nikki Hiltz. She had bests of 2:09.50 and 4:42.45 in high school and was the 2012 California state champion in 1600. She started out her collegiate career at the University of Oregon before transferring to the University of Arkansas. At the 2017 NCAA Track and Field meet, Hiltz finished in 2nd place in 1500, just .02 behind the winner. The podcast is only about 33 minutes.

Thanks to an anonymous poster for the link to the video below which is Nikki's victory at the CA state meet as a junior with her PR of 4:42.45. That is the 2nd fastest time ever run by a CCS athlete trailing only Anna Maxwell's converted 4:41.63 from the 2014 Stanford Invitational.

Here is a listing of the fastest 1600 meter runners in the past decade and where Nikki ranks among the best in California.

Nikki Hiltz is awesome.

I've enjoyed following her exploits since the fall of 2011. Do yourself a favor and watch how she blew away the field in the girl's 1600m at the 2012 state track meet:

I think she closed with a 67 second last lap.

I'm proud of her for having come out and wish her the best in all future endeavors.
