Can you predict Cooper Teare's time at Sacramento Meet of Champions?

St. Joseph Notre Dame senior Cooper Teare (Ben Crawford photo on the left) will be making his 2nd sub 4 attempt this Saturday at the Sacramento Meet of Champions. His first attempt at the world famous Mt. SAC Relays resulted in a mighty close 4:00.16 effort.

Now it's your turn to predict his final time on Saturday. Will he dip under 4? If so, what will his time be? The person who gets the winning time or the closest will get... ideas for winning entry? A guest post?

2017 Stanford XC Meet Cancelled-more from Stanford SID

STANFORD CROSS COUNTRY INVITE CANCELED

Meet will return in 2018

STANFORD, Calif. – The 2017 Stanford Cross Country Invitational has been canceled because of a scheduling conflict, but will return in 2018.

The meet, which includes college and high school divisions, is among the largest in Northern California, with 14 races and more than 3,000 runners. The meet annually is scheduled on a Saturday in late September or early October. This year, it was October 1.

The target date for 2017 was September 30. However, that is the same date as Stanford’s home football game against Arizona State. Because of the demands on Stanford operations staff and local law enforcement, there was not enough manpower available for two large campus sporting events on a football gameday.

Because students make up a large portion of the meet workforce, the September 23 date was not available because classes have yet to start. And October 7 was not workable because of the spacing of Stanford’s cross country schedule.

The meet has been held annually since 1974.

2017 Stanford Cross Country Invitational cancelled

Just received this email from Jess Riden, Director of Operations...
===============================================
Unfortunately – due to a scheduling conflict with Stanford football on Saturday, September 30, 2017 – we will be unable to host the meet this fall.

As we certainly enjoy having you all on campus, and are proud to host such a great competition - we plan to pick back up and running as normal in 2018.

We apologize for any issues this causes, and hope you will be back for 2018!

Thanks!  And please let me know if you have any questions!

Luis Grijalva Adapts From His Only Coach To The Next Best Thing

Very cool article posted milesplitCA about Luis Grijalva transitioning from his previous coach for his first three years in high school, David Monk, to his current coach this senior season, Karl Wurzbach. It's great to see adults working in the best interest of a student athlete. You can find the article at this LINK.

Cooper Teare 4:00.16 at Mt. SAC Relays

Ben Crawford photo at the finish line. New NCS record for Cooper Teare plus 2nd fastest time run by California HS runner. Only Tim Danielson's 3:59.4 in 1966 is faster. He will get at least one more opportunity this season at the Sacramento Meet of Champions which will have a mile there as part of the invitational portion of the meet.

Cooper's time surpasses Richard Kimball's 4:02.04 from 1974. Kimball started out as a freshman at Jesuit HS and then finished up his next three year's at De La Salle HS.

Also in the race were two NCS runners and Redwood HS teammates, Liam Anderson and Andrew Thomas. They finished with times of 4:16.14 and 4:18.69 respectively.

Also at Mt. SAC Relays, Rylee Bowen won the girls' mile in a time of 4:48.44 just in front of Anna Gibson of Jackson Hole at 4:48.48.

In the boys' 3200, Davis senior Michael Vernau finished in 2nd place with a time of 8:56.45.

Sub 4 minute attempt tonight at Mt. SAC Relays by Cooper Teare

You can watch Cooper Teare's (photo to the right courtesy of Kirby Lee) race tonight at the Mt. SAC Relays which will start at 6:02pm at this LINK on FloTrack. It's the Brook's HS Mile and Cooper will be making his first attempt to become the 10th high schooler in history to break the historic barrier.

Cooper's outdoor personal record in the mile is from last year's United States Olympic Trials-Nike Elite Camp mile race in which he finished in 4th place with a time of 4:06.79. His indoor personal record is from the 2017 New Balance Indoor Nationals where he won in a time of 4:06.60.

This season, Cooper has record personal records in the 800 (1:54.53), 3200 (8:41.46) and 5000 (14:13.26).

The NorCal record for the mile is German Fernandez (Riverbank) at 4:01.70c in 2008. The North Coast Record is held by Richard Kimball (De La Salle) at 4:02.4 in 1974. The California record is held by Tim Danielson (Chula Vista) who ran 3:59.4 in 1966.
