Seeing that the largest improvements for boys are usually from freshman to sophomore year and that Anderson is coming from the same program that recently produced Fred Huxham... yeah it is very possible.

Liam Anderson ran 15:05.3 at Woodward Park this past season making him the fastest sophomore in the entire state. He ran 4:18.39 as a freshman last season at the NCS final. How much faster can he go in the 1600 this coming season?

Really depends. Boys grow at vastly different times.

Liam Anderson: 15:48 at CIF Championships as frosh, 15:03 as soph = 4.7% improvement year to year.
A 4.7% year to year improvement on 4:18 = ~4:06.
I often suggest a potential 4-5% improvement from frosh to soph year for boys, and 2-3% per year thereafter, given normal circumstances. He has already nailed the 4-5% for XC. I wish him good health and continued improvement - he's in good coaching hands.

I think it is hard to say that he can run 4:06 (this year). He already had a full season of XC training before his track season, and really peaked at the right time. The same can be said for this year. While he did have a massive improvement, I would equate that 4:18 time to around a 15:20 mark for a 5k. Therefore, he should improve by about 2% given his season and run between 4:09 and 4:13. But who knows, he is having a phenomenal career thus far and a 4:06 would make him an all time great as a sophomore alone!
