Are these rankings based off of PRs?

Albert Caruana said...

The rankings are based on recent competitions, head to head results, PRs, etc.

If NCS doesn't rain this year, we may be looking at one of the faster years in my opinion.

Does anyone know the course record for NCS?

Albert Caruana said...

The course is running very fast right now with much of the grass portion now dirt.

As for fastest time on the course, Blair Hurlock ran 14:30 in 2013. It's possible somebody ran faster at a non NCS event? Brewer, do you know?

Might we see another NorCal ranking before the league / section finals? Thanks.

Albert Caruana said...

Definitely on the NorCal rankings. They will be posted sometime next week.

Miramonte boys unranked in d3? They beat everyone's favorite team (st joes) at the mariner invite and posted some good times with a month to go until sections

Will you do another one of these rankings following Mt Sac this weekend?

Albert Caruana said...

I could if there are significant changes.

Sebastian Andersson (Berkeley High) said...

As someone who has already raced the Hayward course twice this season, I can definitely say that it is a tad faster due to better maintenance of the first loop around the fields. I will also say it is still challenging, with the long hill run twice, the dirt track/Mendez loop sections. A lot like NCS in 2013.

Riley Bowen Division 5?

It should be interesting to see what De La Salle brings to the table come championships. They always are a major factor.

Previous fast times on the Hayward course - -
14:34 Rich Kimble (DeLaSalle) NCS 1973
14:32 Yong-Sung Leal (Arroyo) HAAL Dual meet 2001

I may be underestimating the Santa Rosa boys, but I have them 5th (and everyone else in that top 5 moved up 1).

The girls D1 is spot on in my book.

This team has climbed to number 5 in D2 ranking from obscurity in the pre season, and wouldn't be shocked if they raise some eyebrows and turn some heads at NCS on the 21st.........Clayton Valley Charter. Speed at the top three spots, and are deep, deep, deep at 4-7. Leadership from a couple seniors, sophomore newcomer who gets faster each week with experience, and a supporting cast that understands how to race and finish in numbers. Just throwing it out there.

An just who is anonymous 2:08pm anyway. A lot of false and misleading innuendos has been posted by anonymous people lately About Rylee. Do they have the courage to come out from behind their curtain of anonymity?

Anonymously,

Tom Benjamin

I've been on vacation for a bit but what's the story with Rylee Bowen?

Chuck's Army continues to march on.I guess coaching does matter.

My plane's getting ready to take off so I'll check in later.

"Chuck's Army continues to march on. I guess coaching does matter."

That or the 150 people on the team to choose from.

I counted Campolindo's athletes on athletic.net and came up with 105. To compare, I counted 158 for Las Lomas. While they are good, I don't see them beating Campo anytime soon. It's not all about the amount of runners.

Sal said...

Looks like Campo is D3. How does that give them an unfair advantage? Certainly not when compared with larger D1 and D2 schools. So what if they get over 100 kids to run? Isn't that what we are trying to do here? Get a larger percentage of kids in every school to run because it is fun and fulfilling. Obviously Chuck is getting it right by the numbers and by the quality of his runners.

Anonymous said...

6:54,11:36,12:03, 12:21..... or Andy, since he is the one coaching this year. He has done a great job.

Anonymous said...

As have the Las Lomas coaches. If you go back about 15 years ago, Las Lomas was nothing in cross country. Now they are good every year. 158 athletes is a ton and the student-athletes are all getting a great experience in running.

Sal said...

That's the whole point - get kids to join your program, no matter the size of the school. Coach them up, see who will suffer the most to become good, race the best 7. The Bells are D1 yet only have about 147 unique athletes listed on Ath.net. Homestead is D1 too and only has 30 boys listed. Is that unfair? No! They are both highly rated and evidently far behind some other programs that get 100-160 kids at D3 schools. Good programs and coaches attract good talent, bad ones don't.

What's the Story on Bowen? Healthy she win's by a minute.

Andrew said...

Alameda girls are unfortunately without their #1 runner from earlier this season, Lauren Lum, it looks like. She hasn't raced the last few weeks. A lot can happen in two weeks, of course.

What happened to Grace Brown? Haven't seen her run for Campo.

Anonymous said...

I think that Dawson Reckers from Athenian should be ranked in the top 5 Div. 5 individuals since he bested his fellow owl Anthony Ottati (who is ranked) by 1.8 seconds at BCL East League Championships. Alex Glavin should also be ranked since he finished second only to Zach Connolly.

Not that talented on the Boy's side compared to previous years.

Albert Caruana said...

It's not supposed to rain and it will fast.

Albert Caruana said...

Grace Brown is still recovering from a foot injury that required surgery.

Andrew said...

Matt Salazar of Casa Grande is not racing due to a hamstring injury that bothered him all season (per Santa Rosa Press Democrat article http://www.pressdemocrat.com/sports/4774432-181/casa-grande-cross-country-star-matt.

Although he isn't the top 5 listed above, he is a State Meet individual qualifier when healthy. That's a shame. Hope he gets healthy for track and beyond.

interesting D2 rankings. Gonna have to do some rewriting after tomorrow

Albert Caruana said...

I just posted the updated rankings. I will not rewrite anything after the meet. If I inspire a team or two from under ranking them, you are welcome!
