Question, How many Bay Area athletes have broken 4 min in the mile, and who is the fastest on the list? Boulet?

That's a great question. Yes, Richie Boulet ran 3:53.25 so that may be the fastest. I know Matt Giusto ran 3:55.58 at Kezar so there is another. Don Bowden of Cal was of course the first american to break the 4 minute mile. Dan Aldridge also broke 4 minutes in mile. You also have Cristian Soratos who broke 4 minutes this year indoors.

I am just going by memory here so if you know of others, please chime in.

Mark Schilling ( Garden Grove, Orville. First Nor Cal sub 4 miler )Doug Padilla, Marina H.S. San Leandro Gordon Johnson, Piedmont H.S, Joe Fabris CCS section. Are you asking runners that went to High School in the Bay Area. Does Sac count? Are we taking Nor Cal?

I think all runners who went to a NorCal HS would be a good list for starters.

We can point to Thomas Joyce and Eugene Hamilton III a couple of weeks ago when people say the "Cal - where good runners go to die" thing... great results.

@ Anonymous 3:06,
Agreed!!...and Eugene Hamilton ran a notable 1:48 in the 800m, beating the stanford studs to win the Cal vs. Stanford meet...
