LaRocco goes sub-18 mins at Willow Hills. St. Francis SJS girls top Clovis North. Davis and Bella Vista sit out . . . could have been a great race

Del Oro, small school had an impressive team showing between Varsity Girls, Varsity Boys, and the lower class runners. Good solid performance late in the season on a tough course. Great job KMO and Linda!

How is this course? Is it the Crystal Springs of Sacramento?

It's the section course so I guess you can call it the Crystal Springs of the SJS. Perhaps others who have run the course before can speak about this course.

My daughter ran Willow Hills over about 6 years. My son ran it for a couple of years.

Has wide start on grass that funnels quickly to a somewhat narrow left turn that then widens somewhat for about 30 yards or so and then constricts again to a levee along Willow Hills Res. The course then leads to an area of undulating hills.

My daughter always found it challenging but fun. She felt it provided different opportunities to catch runners in front of her. I think the course tends to favor runners who can maintain speed downhill.

The finish line is adjusted from time to time so its hard to compare times - sometimes its near the start line and sometimes its near the Discus cage (about 50 yards apart). Rocks and wood chips on the trails. I kind of always wondered how really safe it was to have fairly sizeable rocks on the course but the kids seem to handle it.

I know there are some coaches who do not like Willow Hills and maybe they will comment. I think the start is at least part of the problem. It is also somewhat difficult for parents and others to walk around the course without actually walking on the running trails.

Know nothing about Crystal Springs so hard for me to compare. Others probably have more knowledge and can compare.

For Girls - about a 20 to 35 second difference I would say between Willow Hills and Woodward with the later having the faster times. For Girls, I would say Sub-20 on Willow is a good run. Near 19 min is very good. Sub-19 is a great time and sub-18 is a very rare time.

Probably TMI there.
