What about Eugene Hamilton d3?? and Duc Nguyen d2?

DEETHREE said...

Huxam needs to be on the top of that list. his Mt. Sac performance was more impressive than any of the others accomplishments combined.
I think everyone else on that list is worthy of their rankings though.
and what about Eugene Hamilton? I'm not sure if he would even crack the top 10 let alone top 5...

Anonymous said...

Hamilton ran 15:29 at the WACC meet, i don't think he should be discounted

Anonymous said...

honestly i think Frosty might be able to beat one of them piner boys

Anonymous said...

D3 is about to be a CRAZY fast race. jus sayin. do yall think anyone here can break 15:00?

Anonymous said...

im gonna have to take Connor Clark the 4:13/9:12 guy over the marin kid. sorry.

Albert Caruana said...

Reinhart beat Clark in their last meeting. Rematch this Friday.

Only 4 Division III runners have broken 15:00 on the Hayward course at NCS. We'll see what takes place this year.

Anonymous said...

Tanner Shaw?
Hamilton deserves consideration, just not in the top 5.
Also not sure if Frost can run with Piner either, sorry.
Ngyuen > Crose.
Clark > Reinhart.
Arias > Kinney.
Huxham > Stalters.
Hanson > Goltra.

How about an on the bubble Albert?

I'm satisfied with where my runner is at according to Albert. Diribe hasn't raced except for league meets this year because of a light schedule and an injury, but she'll be fresh and ready to go. Due credit to the freshwomen White, Starn, and McCandless but unfortunately I haven't seen any of them go head-to-head yet (EBALs will clear some of it up). Actually, Starn and McCandless beat Bayliss at the EBAL center meet...

I think Duc Nguyen will be Alameda's top runner at NCS (with Carlson hopefully right there too). So maybe switch Nguyen/Carlson with Tu.

And one of the anonymi is crazy for not considering a 1:52 800 meter runner who has run 15:29 at Hayward this season and has been at the top of O' Dowd's order for the entire season.

No argument anywhere else because they all look like names that I recognize from being very successful in other races or I don't know them at all. Let the discussion continue!

sarah baxter could probably beat some of the boys on this list

DEETHREE said...

So where on that list does Hamilton belong? Douglass beat him by 45 seconds at Stanford.
Huxam and Stalters also put half a minute at him at Mt. Sac
Hanson Beat him at Stanford as well along with Ed Sias.
I guess you could make the argument that Goltra and Hamilton haven't gone head to head yet, but Goltras already taken down Hanson and probably will again at DFAL's.
If anything, Michael Wang should be next in line. finished in front of Hamilton at Ed Sias, and had a pretty good run at the De La Salle meet as well as a low 16 mark on stanford.
Adam Hathaway has to be next just because they always run so well in the championship season.

@DEETHREE

I didn't look that much into it...haha touche.

top 5 may be a stretch then...

Anonymous said...

Goltra did not beach Hanson head to head.. they never raced. Hanson did not race the center meet for some reason

Anonymous said...

Nguyen is both #4 and on the bubble? Besides Stanford, he's been reallly consistent.

I'd put Stephen Carlson over the livermore runner, and I'd put Cameron Tu on the bubble

Albert Caruana said...

Fixed.

Anonymous said...

Seems like hanson has a habbit on running well at ed sias but not quite post season

Anonymous said...

@Anon 9:07
Goltra over Hanson.
look at their woodward times.

Karsten said...

Are you referring to last year where he ran a 15:59 at state after having an appendicitis and taking two weeks off?
if thats an example of "not running well" in the post season, then i wonder what classifies a good race.

NCSfanboy said...

Anyone referencing meets like Ed Sias and DLS Invite is not helping their case. Can we try to keep this discussion to a Mt. Sac weekend + timeline? We're looking at the post-season. Anything that happened a month ago doesn't matter much now.

Post-season of THIS year*

Anonymous said...

@NCSfannypack
so we can't learn from the past?
Even when Campo ALWAYS does great in the post season, after starting off slow at Ed Sias. I think learning from past seasons is one of the most helpful tools when determining rankings, whether its a team or individual

Anonymous said...

Goltra and Hanson's Woodward times are less than a second apart, in two VERY different meets. At this point it's hard to say which is better than the other, but Hanson has more experience with larger races and has historically performed better under pressure, so I'd give it to him.

Anonymous said...

D1 Girls seems off. Pianin is definitely #1, but consider:

- Abdo hasn't raced more than twice (I think) and while good runs neither were crazy fast.

- Bayliss won Stanford and ran faster than Starn and White at Mt Sac.

- Starn ran faster than White at Stanford and Mt. Sac. Starn and McCandless were in front of Bayliss at the EBAL Center meet.

- White ran 24 seconds faster than Abdo on the Canyon Middle School Course.

- McCandless isn't even Granada's best runner. Maryann Gong is. Gong has run faster 4 out of 5 times they've run the same race.

So what does it all mean? NCS is going to be a great race!

Andrew said...

Diribe has raced 3 times (only WACC league meets - Garin Park, Hayward, and Canyon Middle School) so far. Like I said earlier, she's been dealing with injuries but is healthy now. She hasn't had much competition in any one of them - the closest being her sister (at 2 of the meets) and Nicole Anthony of Castro Valley (at Hayward). This lack of competition may hurt her come NCS, but hopefully she gets some at the WACC Finals to prep for NCS.

But anonymous at 10:06 PM is right with the facts. And I know D1 girls is going to very fast and powerpacked with these names and plenty others in that front pack. Anything's possible with a pack that big and fast.

In D2 girls, I'm not sure where Xu slots in among the 4 other NBL girls, but I am certain that in this Friday's NBL Championships, the order of the five NBL girls listed (including the bubble) will not be the same that is on the list.

Albert Caruana said...

And what order do you predict?

I know there will be changes after the league championship races but have to start somewhere with the individual rankings.

Anonymous said...

Good move adding SRV's Wilke to the list. He's always come up big during championship season for the wolves and based on recent workouts, looks primed to do it again. Don't count out SRV jr. Jason Intravia either - he's closing in on Hanze and Wilke in recent races looks primed for a big post season as well.

Clark (SF Univ)

Reinhart (Marin)
Elliott (Athenian)
Rodrigues (SJND)
Murphy (SJND)

Albert,
Ashley Moffett had an illness, which presetn a wild card for the NBL. That said, if she has rebounded close to form, I predict the NBL will go: Delaney White (D1), Moffett, Hannah Haley, Brynna Thigpen, Andrea Natoli... if Ashley is still well off her game, then can can slide in the above list.

Anonymous said...

Long time until NCS, most league meets have not even happened yet, wet weather , illness , injuries....lot's will change in the next two weeks and a half weeks.

Anonymous said...

One thing to consider about Eugene Hamilton in D3 is that he's just been running XC for one year. This was his first time at all the invitationals, except Ed Sias. 15:29 at the Hayward course and 15:39 at Mt. Sac (there was an error in the timing in the D3 race, but if you watch the video posted on youtube, you will see/hear the actual time) is noteworthy. He's running against guys that have been running for several years. Let's see how things shape up in the next couple of weeks...

Eballer said...

Question-If a runner falls at NCS XC, does he get to run a make-up race and move on to the next level, or is that just for track?

I kid.

Anonymous said...

hamilton did not run a 15:39 at mt. sac.

Albert Caruana said...

If a runner falls during the start and the starter sees it, there is a good chance that the race will be recalled. After that, it's tough luck.

Eballer said...

As it should be, Albert-As it should be.

After yesterday's EBAL race, I'm going to retract my statement that McCandless isn't Granada's best runner. She ran a great race to take 2nd behind Pianin. Looking also at the NBL results, I think the rankings for D1 Girls should be:
1) Pianin
2) McCandless
3) Bayliss
4) Starn
5) White
On the bubble: Abdo since she hasn't run any big meets

I think the debate between Aidan Goltra and Tyler Hanson can be settled with the DFALs race run earlier today. Hanson paced off Goltra until the final hill with less than a half mile left, then took off to win by 14 seconds. Hanson also ended up setting a new course record by 9 seconds. I would put him at the top of the list for NCS.

Paul Holden all the way!!! He is such a good runner
