2012 Track and Field,
A Amazing Race!
That's a lot of green grass for Arizona...
Wow, great race! Let me know if anyone has footage of the Division 3 1600m run. Thanks either way!
Wow amazing. You usually hear about people tying there shoes near the end of a race, but never it the state championship and also the 1st lap
I wrote a blog entry about this issue during cross-country season, speculating that it might be more efficient to stop for 5 seconds and fix your shoe than to allow it to fall off and lose more time than that in the remainder of the race. One of our runners lost his shoe at about 1 mile at the Clovis Invitational and ran the rest of the race pretty well with only 1 shoe. But I wondered if he would have run even better if he had stopped and put it back on.... http://crosscountrynewbies.blogspot.com/2011/10/new-trend-in-xc-sock-footed-running.html
I am stunned at the size of the field considering the safety of the runners (Montoya was fortunate he wasn't trampled 400m into the race when he bent over to fix his shoe) and the quality of the racing when manuevering through a herd
I shot this video are our thoughts were 1-Why didn't he move into lane 4 to stop and 2-Should he have been disqualified for dropping down on the line between lane 1 and 2 with 5 runners right behind him?Ron Ceton
I watched the tape to see if anybody stepped on this shoes and it doesn't appear anyone did. I would think that someone who had to stop in the middle of a race like he did last year (I think this was mentioned by announcer) wouldn't triple tie his shoes. Nonetheless, 4:14 with a pit stop is really impressive.
i think he did it on purpose... he could just be having fun.
I also tried to see where the shoe issue starts on the HD version I shot and couldn't see it. Very close to the line. I think the runner behind him must have just caught his heal. It's not that it came off, in slow motion you can see where the back of his shoe slips under his heal. Ron Ceton
Him and Ryan both came into this race at 4:08. There is no way Bernie would do this on purpose. After last years shoe problem and how badly it tore up his foot, He made the statement that with the upcoming dream mile he felt it better to fix it than to kick it off. Ron Ceton
My shoe came untied during the middle of my league finals XC race. I left it alone and there was never a threat of me tripping over them because when you are running at 5k speed the laces don't really hit the ground. And the shoe stayed on. And I won. However, I was way more cautious in the race then I would have been had it been tied. I also wonder what would have happened had I stopped and tied it.
If there was another 4:08 guy in this race, he made an aggregious error by not going HARD when he saw that Bernie wasn't in the lead pack or in position to chase.
Bernie usually run mid pack until late in the race. I don't think Ryan (4:08) or any but the few behind him when he stopped knew what happened until after the race. Had Ryan known it would have been interesting.
