"What NorCal teams (top 3 in any division) will get on the podium this year? What individuals (top 10)?"

Looking at those lists, DyeStat apparently thinks 'NCS' stands for 'Not Competitive Section'. I think they'll be surprised....

I agree^. I'd say clearly D3 and D5 are NCS's most powerful divisions. But other than those, individualy look for possible top 10 finishes by Bayliss and Deuel in D2, and possibly Pianin up in D1.

Don't forget Division IV with Nicole Lane and Spencer Moore who both will finish in the top 10. John Lawson is one of the favorites to win Division IV after finishing 5th last year as a sophomore. Alexi Taylor is also favored to finish in the top 10.

You already mentioned Divisions III and V and besides the team favorites, there are individuals who will finish in the top 10 from NCS.

Yes. Verdon obviously. And also Joyce, Luna, and possibly Conner or Silva to round out the D3 individuals.

- Parker Deuel
Girls
- Christine Bayliss

D3
Boys
- Thomas Joyce
- Luis Luna
- Alex Conner

Some of the individuals on this list may be a bit of a longshot, but they all have a legitimate chance at making the top 10 tomorrow if they are on their game.

If you look at the entire NOR CAL I think think it will be represented very well across all divisions as individuals and teams.

However, the South with their super-sized schools will still dominate but it is good to see the little brother make some noise.

*(Ur) Unranked by dyestat
*(R^) Finished higher than rank

Of my previous list 12/12 of the girls mentioned made the top 12 in their divisions, 4 of whom were Unranked by dyestat, and 3 of whom finished higher than their dyestat rankings.

Of my previous list 11/14 of the boys mentioned made the top 12 in their divisions, 4 of whom were Unranked by dyestat, and 4 of whom finished higher than their dyestat rankings.

NCS proves that it's individuals are not to be casualy regarded on the side, as 2 of whom, Jena Pianin and Parker Deuel, placed as high as 5th in their respective divisions while they were previously unrecognized by any official rankings.

Thank you very much for posting the top finishers from NCS.

Lots of impressive performances today. I will post the top NorCal finishers when I get a moment.

Who else really impressed you today?

It looks like Boys D4 is where the magic occurs! Last year, San Rafael pulled off a big upset and this year, Yreka surprised (me, at least) with the fairly dominant win.

Nolan Tonkyn of Albany had an amazing race! Alex Conner was excellent today, too. Connor Clark proved why some considered him the favorite at NCS and SJND had a nice showing for 3rd. What happened to LaFollette there though? That may have been the difference for 2nd.

Parker Deuel ran well, but I'm guessing the SRV boys didn't do what they wanted. What happened to Jordan Rushing in that race too?!

I know they're not NorCal, but the Saugus girls pulling out the win when they certainly weren't the favorites??? Wow.

The girls D3 race was as good as advertised! Wow. The 3 NorCal girls in D1 were impressive, too. I'm glad Pianin and Abdo proved Dyestat wrong.

It was an excellent meet!

I love looking at the team results for D3 boys. Piner over Campolindo by 1 point for third place is exciting!

I was a fan of Saugus until today. Trying to pull off a BS DQ and ruining Simi Valley's chances of NXN? Wow, classless move all around.

Jason O. said...

John Lawson had the fastest time for a NCS runner and the fastest time for a junior in any section!!

Andrew said...

@9:06 commenter. Oh I didn't realize that Saugus did that. Looks like they succeeded though since Simi Valley had a girl DQ'd. It apparently cost Simi Valley a NXN since that girl should have been around top 50 combined and top 25 in D2...that is -~100 pts for combined and -~25 for D2. Would have put them second to Saugus in both by a wide margin...doesn't look like Saugus even needed it.

What was the infraction called for?

Unfortunately Jordon Rushing had an asthma attack around the 2 mile mark and collapsed at the finish line. Tuff day.

Didnt the temperature increase as the day went on? Seems like the afternoon races had much less favorable conditions than the morning races.

Albert Caruana said...

It was definitely warmer for the later races.

Been clicking around DyeStat throughout the day, and quite frankly, I'm floored. The area between the Grapevine and Marin County seems to have slipped into a black hole. Are we not getting race results and stats out there quickly enough for them to digest, or are they just not interested in the whole story any more? Thinking DyeStatCal needs to be renamed DyeStatSoCal...

At no time did any of my runners complain, it was the same for everyone in the race. In the D3 races it was 65 in the shade and when you are running that can be pretty warm.

Nothing too warm but enough to slow things down compared to the rain and fog of the last few years. I'm guessing that's why many runners who are far faster this year were a little off from last year's times.

Coach Small said...

I agree, it got warmer as the day went on; though it wasn't "hot" by any means. Kept times a little slower comparatively.

The last few years have been great at 45 degrees and cloudy as the above poster mentioned. Hard to beat that!
