Way to go CCS ladies, one of the most competitive groups we've seen since the early-mid 2000s with Follmar, Grelli, Tyler, Plank etc. Crazy to think they all return next year!

Wait...Campo girls lose to VDL in the actual D3 race, but beat them considering only NorCal teams (and in combined girls)...

California girls are going to dominate FLW!

I was a fan of Saugus until today. Trying to pull off a BS DQ and ruining Simi Valley's chances of NXN? Wow, classless move all around.

Anonymous said...

Saugus didn't file the protest, officials did the dq, Saugus coach gave props to Simi team on stage...hardly a classless program, we should all be Saugus fans.

Anonymous said...

what was the protest/dq issue with simi?

DQs at the finish line are usually initiated by the officials manning the finish line. I don't know if this was the case here but but let's not disparage a program with no factual evidence.

that's four years in a row that the fastest CCS boy at state came from Mountain View. Rowe-Rowe-Schuh-Myjer

"that's four years in a row that the fastest CCS boy at state came from Mountain View."

What's even more interesting is that none of them were the fastest boy at CCS finals.

All of the articles referenced here neglect to mention that the girls team for The College Preparatory School in Oakland placed third in DV.

Albert Caruana said...

You are very correct. The College Prep girls finished in 3rd place yesterday winning their 3rd plaque in the last 3 years. They finished in 3rd place in '09, 2nd place in '10 and yesterday's finish. Jack Coakley does a great job there at CPS and his team deserves the recognition for their accomplishments as well.

videos of the races? Piner ran one hell of a race to best campo, NCS was extremely well represented in d3. Lawson was phenomenal. Parker proved all his doubters wrong, another amazing race. Clark and Ratto both ran well too, how about that Ratto kick? Can't wait to see what he can do on the track. Top 3 finishes team wise by Piner, and SJND on the boys side.

I dont think that any boys team in D3 ran particularily well looking at these results.

I think weather could have been a contributing factor.

From the CIF Handbook:

DISQUALIFICATION
The CIF will consider disqualifying a runner or team only if a meet official detects or can verify the
infraction. Meet management will not rely on information provided by non-officials. If you have a
concern or complaint, contact Meet Director, Dustin Marzolf, or Dave Dodson, through the Coaches
Corner.

Albert Caruana said...

Correct. I am fairly certain this DQ was initiated by an official.

Cross Country is a sport we have always considered to be physical in nature. Outside of tackling a runner to prevent them from finishing I don't see how any DQ is warranted for any infraction.

Not that i haven't seen it, I personally had a competitor tug on my arm while running up a hill once so I wouldn't pass him. I wouldn't want a DQ for the guy, I just took a swing and kept running.

Let these kids run!

Anyone know what the infraction was?

Here's what the coach's had to say.

Overlooked in all the tremendous performances by NCS runners on Saturday was Marin Academy's Trevor Reinhart finishing 9th in the D5 boys race as a freshman. His 16:00 (officially 15:59.6) is the 19th fastest time ever record for a freshman on the Woodward Park course (including Footlocker races).

Hey All,

What is the course conversion for girls from Mt Sac Invitational course to Footlocker course. Would adding 35 seconds do it? Hank Lawson's converter & XC Stats converter convert to a faster time for the Footlocker course. This doesn't seem right to me. Aren't they basically the same course plus the track? How would the Footlocker course be converted to a faster time?

Thanks

Add about 65-70 seconds from Mt. Sac course to the 5k running around 6 minute pace.

Last year for fun I ran the FL supporters race. Being the geeky coach that I am I took my split (17:40) as I passed the traditional finish and kicked my butt off to finish 18:49.

I'd say you run almost 250-280 meters on the track.

i heard that reinhart is going on 16 years old. still an impressive time, but...

...but what? Most Freshmen turn 16 during their freshman year. It's a very impressive time for a freshman, period.

Albert Caruana said...

I would say turning 16 during freshman year is not the norm. Most freshmen are 14 and turn 15 during their freshman year.

Regardless of age, sub 16 at Woodward is an impressive time. Great season for the MA runner.

Nelson Powless, freshman from Victory Christian turned 15 in Sept., ran a 16:11, I'd say that's a little more impressive. Regardless, both are the future.

Yeah with regard to Mountain View, it's almost eerie the way the fastest boy runners from that school have raced at CCS and then at state the past four years. Since the 2008 xc season, the second fastest CCS runner at CCS was from Mountain View, but then just two weeks later at state, that same Mountain View runner who had the second fastest time of the day at CCS, ended up having the fastest time of the day for a CCS runner at state. It'll be especially funny if it happens again next year, for a fifth year in a row. Below are the stats for what I'm talking about:

CCS 2008:
1)Tyre Johnson-Palma-15:28
2)Garrett Rowe-MV-15:29

State 2008:
1)Garrett Rowe-MV-15:03
2)Phil MacQuitty-Palo Alto-15:14

CCS 2009:
1)Paul Summers-Gunn-14:41
2)Garrett Rowe-MV-14:52

State 2009:
1)Garrett Rowe-MV-15:06
2)Ian Myjer-MV-15:16

CCS 2010:
1)Will Geiken-Los Gatos-15:21
2)Parker Schuh-MV-15:35

State 2010:
1)Parker Schuh-MV-15:11
2)Will Geiken-Los Gatos-15:15

CCS 2011:
1)Yohaness Estifanos-Milpitas-14:59
2)Aubrey Myjer-MV-15:06

State 2011:
1)Aubrey Myjer-MV-15:14
2)Richard Ho-Leland-15:32

Looks like performances varied from section races to state races. Whoever is putting together the All-Norcal lists has their work cut out for them.

Anonymous said...

It's called peaking at State. In Myjer's case, I don't think he's peaked yet. I guess we'll see at NXN.

For those still checking this comment section, I will post some of the outstanding, unbiased towards any section...school...or runner, results of Nor-Cal runners later tonight 11/30/11. By the books and numbers there were a lot of WOW's from what I saw, and what what the numbers show. Hopefully Albert will allow me the space.

As long as you include Crystal Springs Uplands in your "Wow" Performances I am sure he will find the space for you! :0)

Garrett always ran high mileage and fast workouts the week prior to CCS, even his soph year. He told me his goal was to run as fast as possible at state and hopefully qualify for a national race.
