I'm wondering why Bayliss is on top 10 while Novell and Pianin aren't?

Anonymous said...

what about Esteban Valencia, Adrian Hinojosa, and Charles DeAnda for honorable mention??

Andrew said...

Hmmm I can't really see much fault with these now that I've looked over results. I think Novell, Pianin, or Goo should bump Bayliss and Blum.

I thought Silva would have been ranked on the boys side. I have no clue though. The second half of those guys and the HMs are all so close.

I notice these rankings took this past weekend into account very heavily. I guess they should if they're for today...Good work, Albert.

How about Trevor Stephens of Del Oro, Ryan Hodgkins of Whitney HS.

The correct headline should read, "Northern California Top Individuals from this Past Weekends Invitationals" It definitely looks like this list was compiled from a lot of this weekends results. I think a more accurate, slightly different list would be posted for the girls Top 10 if their seasonʻs best so far was taken into consideration. Just an observation.

Feel free to add names who you feel are missing or should be moved up.

Kyle Roux from BV... beat Jagerson and Mercado at Hornet Jamboree and CVC League meet... they beat him the past two weekends when he has been sick... he almost didn't make it over the finish line at Clovis... and passed out after the line.

Albert Caruana said...

I know BV had a couple of athletes have a rough time at Clovis. I will keep Kyle in mind for my next set of rankings.

Anonymous said...

Sarah Lack from BV deserves at least an HM....

Anonymous said...

Mark my words...Diribi Abdo of BHS will be up on the list soon!

Albert Caruana said...

I should add an "under the radar" list. Some of the names that are being mentioned belong on that list.

Anonymous said...

Girls top10..Ankhelyi should be at the #3 position based on her head to head win over Hiltz at Stanford .

Anonymous said...

Anyone care to put together a list of top performers from Nor Cal at Clovis?

Lack was 19:22 at Clovis, who should she bump?

Anonymous said...

Lack's 19.22? Just based on Clovis there was over 20 runners that had better times than her. Maybe when the have an "under the radar" category she could possible qualify for this.

Rob Collins said...

Under Radar Albert, I would have to say My own Athlete SLV Nick Hicks very comparable to Cody Johnson!

Anonymous said...

Speaking of under the radar, why does it seem like SRV has fallen OFF the radar?

Anonymous said...

I agree with the comment above...The title "Northern CA Top Individuals" is misleading and inaccurate...Top Northern CA for the Last Week" is by far more accurate. You can't compare one weekend's race times and title it Top Individuals. You have to look at the entire season. Every runner is going to have a bad race, be sick, or be injured but still try to gut it out.

Albert Caruana said...

Feel free to add names of runners I may have missed. I posted that list last night so this weekend's meets take priority over other meets if there were comparable runners.

As an example, Madeleine Ankhelyi defeated Nikki Hiltz at Stanford head to head 17:18 to 17:24. Ankhelyi ran 17:53 at Woodward Park while Niltz ran 17:04 at Crystal Springs. That converts to about 17:24 on the Woodward Park course.

I can make changes if they are necessary. Just give me solid facts on why those changes should be made.

Albert - in your interview with Madeleine Ankhelyi, did she discuss her training mileage? My understanding is she keeps her mileage to about half the mileage that certain others train. My point is that she is really a very good talent even while training less than others. At least I think this is the case - I am open to being corrected. Christine Bayliss is an incredible talent - something tells me that she is just "warming" up.

Albert Caruana said...

What you see in the interview with Madeleine Ankhelyi is what I received from her. I didn't cover too much training with her so what you see is what you get.

Anonymous said...

17:04 at Crystal Springs (5:47 pace) for 2.95m converts to 17:55 at Woodward Park.

Anonymous said...

Who cares what their training is? Only the results matter. Some people race better on more milage and others on less - maybe if she added on miles she would actually do worse, maybe not. Everyone has different training strategies and what it should come down to is race results.

Also, I agree with Albert - the latest race should have the most priority. If someone is sick or has a bad race. Oh well. They can prove themselves at the next meet. In the end how they do at state is all that really matters anyway. All the rest is just warm-up.

Albert Caruana said...

Woodward Park is at worst 35 seconds slower than Crystal Springs. You can't just convert the pace per mile for Crystal Springs to Woodward Park because of the more rugged terrain at Crystal.

SRV has falled off the radar. They return 5 guy who all ran fast enough at last years State meet to make the t-25 list from Clovis Invite posted above.

Time wil tell (which is why all of this is so much fun!)

Anonymous said...

Kendall Hacker, SI should be on the list. She beat Kylie Goo head to head at Westmoor a few weeks ago.

Anonymous said...

Albert.....Ankhelyi should move to the #3 spot based on her head to head win over Hiltz at Stanford.Your conversion theory is just that ................theory.If you are ranking athletes you can not discount a match race that has only taken place 2 wks ago.

Albert Caruana said...

I am not discounting that race at all. I just think 17:04 on the Crystal Springs course is just a great time (#7 fastest time) and warrants moving Hiltz up to #3.

We'll see a rematch soon enough and the runners will decide who is best out on the course as it should be.

how about abraham espinoza (james logan) - placed 6th at castro valley?

& matthew alexander - american?

Anonymous said...

Looks like SRV is back on the "radar" to continue the metaphone someone started above. V-Boy 1st at EBAL Center meet yesterday. I don't have the results in hand but it seemed like 4 in the top 10 - 15.

to not put trevor of mv in the top rankings is just dumb

Albert Caruana said...

Perhaps you can phrase that a little differently next time and since you feel so strongly about Trevor's placement, please use your name in the future.

Thank you.

It's always great to see who does what and when during the season. It is much more difficult to make up a list than to comment on one. Needless to say, many top runners did not run at Clovis or any other invitational the past couple of weeks. Many of the newer talents are still progressing and it will take until November to have a better feel for those injured and out, those truly having arrived, and those still climbing. Perhaps this would be a better breakout..Those who have arrived, those still climbing, below the radar and those injured and/or out. #1, #2, #3 changes from week to week, race to race and can generally be argued by almost anyone. Is there a chance we can use groupings versus rankings....anyone want to give it a try

To underscore the SRV win on Wednesday, it should be noted that most of their varsity boys' squad (didn't see DeVeies there) finished top 20 at Primo's 3 days before. These guys were running on pretty tired legs.

Anonymous said...

Why would SRV run a road race during XC season? Our coaches discourage that so they can save their legs for HS XC season.

Anonymous said...

My understanding was that the SRV coach wanted the kids to run it...

Doug Griffith said...

The kids probably ran the 5K in lieu of their Sunday run plus it's a great community event. They may have been a bit tired for the EBAL, but maybe not. Coach Hunter does a great with his kids and I trust running the Primo's run is just another training workout. Road race or not, many of the kids may have done their Sunday run on the asphalt/packed dirt Iron Horse Trail. Given the team's consistent success over the years, I'm inclined to give the Coach more credit some on this board.

Christine Bayliss is only a freshman. An incredibly frightening thought for runners during this Halloween season.

Go Wolves!

Conor Dunn said...

I'll chime in just because I know the exact reason SRV ran at Primo's. They had a choice to run a V02 Max workout on Saturday or do the Primo's 5k Sunday. Devries ran the workout on Saturday, that's why you didn't see his name on the Primo's list.
