Boys Rankings:

if verdon was a boy, she'd beat luna....

If Luna was a girl he'd beat Verdon....

Common now, please.

This is not exactly what I was looking for in the comment section.

Luis Luna and Carrie Verdon are the top runners in NCS. I don't think there is an argument about that. The question is who are the runners behind them in the top 10.

Anonymous said...

Let's start with girls for a change:
1) Carrie Verdon, Campolindo
2) Christine Bayliss, San Ramon Valley
3) Carina Novell, Granada
4) Nicole Lane, El Molino
5) Jena Pianin, Amador Valley
6) Julia Maxwell, Branson
7) Spencer Moore, St. Mary's (Berkeley)
8) Lauren Kraus, Maria Carrillo
9) Diribe Abdo, Berkeley
10) Amy Hollshwander, Acalanes

Others to be considered:
Natalie Dimits, Livermore
other Granada runners???
Kyra Johnson, Piner
Amihan Agustin, James Logan
other Campolindo runners???

Apologies to anyone I may have inadvertently overlooked--these are the athletes that came to mind first. Please comment/add to the list.

Trevor Furhman MonteVista who ran strong at Stanford and Jaime Silva of Piner who ran strong at both Stanford and Scott Bauhs merit consideration.

Alright, so the top ten boys rankings above (for dIII) is great.... for the top 3... from their on, it looks a little flawed.
Lets start with number 4.
Nolan Tonkyn. Nolan Tonkyn? where has he ran besides farmer? i don't think a 15:57 on that course puts him in the top 5 on the list yet.
Tyler Hanson is a respectable #5, if not a number 4. He looked solid at ed sias and running a 16:1x after abdomen surgey ain't to shabby either.
6. tyler troxel of acalanes. there were 8 DIII boys in front of him at ed sias, but he did have a respectable race newhall. I'd say we need more time to see if he's really top 6 quality.
7. Douglass of petaluma,is pretty much the same case as troxel, one good performance at newhall, and beaten by 11 DIII boys at ed sias.
Poteracke? Really. a 14th place finish at ed sias does not place you in the top 10 for NCS rankings.
I'd say compensitine ought to be farther up on the list. he's proved himself a consistent two runner at Ed sias, Nike, and stanford, where he stepped up big time.
Fehrnstrohm doesn't deserve to be on the top 10 list quite yet either considering he's had two respectable races (ed sias, lowell), but hasn't showed any "top ten" material yet. On that note, he's not even the best runner behind Hanson, look at Dillon Read. who is this kid? 5th place at ed sias, and a 4th place finish at lowell, and now a 7th place finish at Scott Bauhs with a 15:51. This guy deserves some recognition.
Now i'd like to point out some other individuals that are deserving of this list as well.
JAMIE SILVA: runs a 15:26 at scott Bauhs, and a 15:43 at Stanford.
EVAN QUIGLEY: 15:53 at stanford and 10:20 at ed sias.
DANNY SALTERS: 10:26 at ed sias, and a 12:04 at Artichoke for first place.
So, heres my list:
1. Luis Luna
2. Alex Conner
3. Thomas Joyce
4. Tyler Hanson
5. Jamie Silva
6. Vinson Compenstine
7. Evan Quigley
8. Danny Salters
9. Dillon Read
10. Tyler Troxel
Tear it apart.

For Division 1, De la Salle is obviously looking strong and getting great runners that come out of no where. Right behind them and breathing down De la Salle's neck is Amador Valley. Their top 5 runners are getting better and better every single week.

Quigley came in 11th at Farmer's to plenty of NCS runners not on your list Cynical Critic. But the others are hard to argue with. I especially like Silva being included. And good catch on Read. I'll go with the girls first as well:

1. Carrie Verdon, Campolindo
2. Carina Novell, Granada
3. Jena Pianin, Amador Valley
4. Nicole Lane, El Molino
5. Christine Bayliss, San Ramon Valley
6. Julia Maxwell, Branson
7. Diribe Abdo, Berkeley
8. Spencer Moore, St. Mary's (Berkeley)
9. Lauren Kraus, Maria Carrillo
10. Bridget Blum, SF-University

Boys:
1. Luis Luna, Piner
2. Alex Conner, Sonoma Valley
3. Thomas Joyce, Campolindo
4. Jamie Silva, Piner
5. John Lawson, Drake
6. Tyler Hanson, Miramonte
7. Parker Deuel, San Ramon Valley
8. Connor Clark, SF-University
9. Trevor Fuhriman, Monte Vista
10. Connor McCarthy, Amador Valley

Criticism welcome.

I assume Quigley was either pacing his teammate, or taking it easy. he had nothing to prove that race. But then again i could be wrong

Andrew said...

ohhhh yea I can see how that could be assumed. I was there. Quigley was leading before the first hill loop and then he was in 5th or so when I saw them next (which I think was the basketball courts).

these lists gets me thinking.... how fun would fantasy highschool cross country be... logistics wouldn't be that hard.

Love Andrew's list. Very acurate at this point in the season. I'm really excited to see Novell, Pianin, And Bayliss race head-to-head-to-head at the EBAL Center Meet. Novell and Pianin have run against eachother a couple times with nothing but about a 1 second lead for Novell in both races (Ed Sias and DLS Invitational). Bayliss was finaly at a race that Amador and Granada were both at (Bauhs) but the top girls from both those teams didn't race (most likely from the SATs). And even if they had, they're all in different grades. So needless to say, a Novell, Pianin, Bayliss battle has been in the making for quite some time.

Bishop O Dowd is in the mix for D3 boys.

Anonymous said...

alhambra d3 girls should not be on that list.

Anonymous said...

SRV girls probably shouldn't be top 5. They've lost to Casa Grande, Alameda, AND Clayton Valley.

Some of these lists seem a bit off, containing athletes who "should" be top ten based upon previous year's results. Wishful thinking at best.

Take a look at the NCS top ten @ Stanford (from http://theconningtower.blogspot.com/2011/09/north-coast-section-at-stanford.html)

Not everyone went to Stanford. Talk about wishful thinking, you can't base everything off of one meet.

Agreed^

Albert Caruana said...

I wish it was that easy. We'll know more after Clovis, Crystal Springs and Castro Valley this weekend.

Anonymous said...

This is just a good starting point and everyone has an opinion. As coach Albert said things will shakeout as the season progress..especially after Clovis and Castro Valley.

Anonymous said...

EBAL should be very interesting, Amador Valley ranked second on both the guys and the girls sides not too far off from no. 1 ranked De La Salle and Granada

Anyone else not like Andrew?

Andrew said...

I don't :)

But, please, that's no way to act here.

Anonymous said...

yeah, whats the reason not to like andrew?
cmon now...

Anonymous said...

Will you be posting Individual Rankings?

Albert Caruana said...

I will see what I can do after this weekend's races. For now, there are quite a few lists in the comments above.

Anonymous said...

alhambra d3 girls should not be on that list.

I think American should be put into consideration for D2 as if you compare times, they topped Mission San Jose & have been undefeated so far in MVAL. I believe they are capable of defeating even James Logan.

Anonymous said...

Division 1 Varsity Girls: Pittsburg HS beat Freedom at a dual meet and invitational in the last month.

Anonymous said...

is anyone paying attention to Div V Head Royce its my understanding they have a state qualified athlete in Aida Julien only a soph and this year they have the Hardy Twins who too have run state qualifying times I would predict Head Royce will be a force to be reckoned this and the following years

Anonymous said...

James Logan has a chance at D1 Girls and Boys. They've been running well.
